macOS [NSHost currentHost] causes app to lock up

I'm trying to get the current host name of the mac that is running my app, but the [NSHost currentHost] locks the app up, the machine in question is in the /etc/hosts file and if I type hostname on the command line I get the name I expect, but the thing just locks up...

Any suggestions on what may be wrong?
