A dual core atom would be a terrible chip for an $800 laptop IMO. These atom chips are supposed to go into "low-cost" netbooks. At $800 dollars you have a variety of choices of fully powered notebooks to choose from. I think people don't realize that these atom chips perform significantly slower than regular core 2 duo chips.

In fact, they were meant for very day-to-day electronics, such as fancy cash registers, simple email and internet boxes at airports, etc.

It's amazing their usage has diverged so much from their (most) intended use since their introduction.


Anyway, this is the worst idea I have heard in a while. Check a netbook's benchmarking test in any netbook. Even a model with a dedicated video card such as the Asus N10 did poorly. Tell me if you still want it in a MacBook instead of a Core 2 Duo.
