View Full Version : i2DVDBox?

MacRumors

ZDNet UK (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,t269-s2098985,00.html) has a Comdex 2001 preview and has this interseting quote:

Apple's i2DVDBox combines Internet, DVD, MP3, and even interactive television technologies, all in one device. The i2DVD Box offers all the same features as a conventional DVD, including digital Dolby and composite and s-video outputs. The digital outputs are both optical and coaxial for compatibility with other home entertainment devices.

A typo? or simply misinformation...

Wow!! That's weird!! Sounds like a great device, but if it's true, we should see it taken off of that article within the next day or two. Apple would be really pissed!

I remember there was some German site that was showing something not too different from this right before iPod was announced.

Sorry guys, hate to break up the party, but I did a Google search on "idvd" and "box", and got this URL:
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/bsnstore/51140.html
It's exactly what ZDNET described, but obviously not from Apple. Too bad though, it could have been great.

Doh!
I also remember that the German site was talking about a hard drive equipped device more similar to Tivo, but also acting like a server via airport for your iTunes.

It's surely a little mistake by the journalist who wrote that article.

Correction, 2 sets of eyes, 2 sets of ears and a very sofisticated brain. All you need in that unit is a hard drive and there you got a computer.

The ad says 1 can do it at the same time.
I can't

Throw in airport and different devices in different rooms in the house could be enjoying different media or the same media. TV, stereo, games, internet, etc. :D

I would love to see a 19" (Standard Hifi Width) version of the iPod with Airport to my Mac. With Digital outputs to my Hifi.

Thanks,
Guy
