I felt that things wasn´t as smooth as I´d like it to be, so I got a 512MB PC3200 Geil Golden Dragon to exchange with one of my original 256MB sticks.

For just about a week my machine has been as stable as a rock. That is until an hour ago. I was working on an article when my screen dims, and a dialogue appears and asks me to turn my machine off. (I guess this is a kernel panic?)

I do as I am told, only to find that the GUI won´t boot fully. I get the original wallpaper but no dock or menu line. I try rebooting a couple of times, but no go.

Then I get out my original 256MB stick and pop it in. Voila! Everything works again!

Anyone seen this or know what it might be?

Sounds like memory failure to me, since changing to the other DIMM sticks solved it.

Could be that you have been having memory failure for a while, and you just never knew it.
