on an imac g3 (the one with the monitor & cpu built in together) is it possible to replace the video card? or does this machine have an on board video card?

I do believe that it is on the main board. Mine went out while under apple care, and the invoice they gave me (before Applecare) was $1200!!

You can pick up spare iMac mainboards on eBay, if you can find someone you trust.

the computer is a friend of mine. She took it to the Apple store and they quoted her about $450.00 to repair.

i believe it's an older model, it might not even be worth fixing. Just buy another one.

Don't really bother then, as used G4 towers are going for less money. You could probably find a used iMac that's much faster for that.

iMac board are not that exspensive on eBay and its not hard to replace
