iPhone not syncing with Mac

Hi my syncing with my iPhone is really flakey lately
when i plug it in some times it doesnt sync, it doesnt even charge
i have used several different ports on my USB hub and have tried the usb port on my macbook pro, i have even used different usb cables
but sometimes it works and others it doesn't
why is this so weird, like its not like it doesnt work period it sometimes works and other times it doesnt

Perhaps it's an issue with the port connection on the iPhone? You may need to bring it to an Apple Store.
