Anarbor might be too poppy, but you might want to check out their stuff.
Also, my current duo project, Sketchbook Romantics might be something you're interested in, but we've only finished two tracks, and only one is on our purevolume (http://www.purevolume.com/sketchbookromantics).
As for established bands, Air Traffic, Phantom Planet, and The Wombats don't necessarily have the electro aspect of it, but they're all very good bands in their own right.

May I suggest:
Morbius (http://www.emusic.com/album/Morbius-Greatest-Hits-MP3-Download/11285137.html)
Synthpunk Discopanzer (http://www.emusic.com/album/Synthpunk-Discopanzer-S-P-D-P-MP3-Download/11295033.html)
They are both signed to my label (my declaration of interest) but based on your list I think you would enjoy them. Not spam as I have other artists who probably wouldn't fit the bill ;)
Cheers,
Mark

Though they are not exactly new you could always listen to Handel, Bach, Stravinsky, Berlioz and other greats from the Baroque to Impressionism Eras.
They are definitely interesting and if you are like many people you have not listened to their work very much. If you are worried about their image do not worry most of the classical composers were as big of drunks, drug abusers and fornicators as current musicians. It just was not spoken of as much in polite society.

I like that, and agree, nice one. Re music, I echo what you said about trying classical composers. More modern stuff that I love includes the great Brazilian fusion jazz band Azymuth (was privileged to see them live a few years ago), Pink Martini - an elegant and fantastic eclectic musical group from Portland, Oregon, Yann Tiersen (sound track of Amalie among others; I saw him too, at a very self-indulgent concert he gave a few years ago), the Buena Vista Social Club. Try some of those for starters And don't dream of overlooking the immortal Mozart.

I avoided saying Mozart since he is always thought of as the model of classical. I do love Mozart's work just had to mention the other composers.
Those other musical forms you mentioned sound interesting may have to listen to some samples. Basically to the OP I got much more appreciation and enjoyment from music by sampling many forms. I listen to just about any form. Besides 60's to 80's country and most club or rap music.
Heck some German Polka can be fun to listen to occasionally, at Oktoberfest anyways:D

Again, I agree. Context can help enhance musical appreciation. And yes, German polka has its place, as have Balkan brass bands (try Beirut - a strangely compelling cross between Balkan folk and French chanson cafe stuff, all put together by a very gifted American youngster); the others I have mentioned - even the superb Buena Vista Social Club (fabulous Cuban music - and yes, I was privileged to see them, too, in Dublin nearly a decade ago), have had a relatively limited output, but are still excellent for all of that.

Yeah, ELO are great. Some of the older "classics" really stand the test of time; I spent a few hours two nights ago listening to Leonard Cohen (pure class), Eric Clapton, Nick Cave, and Peggy Lee. Try Manu Chao for some sunshine in your music, simply wonderful.

A good local Chicago band called Heavy The Fall is really good and I like them a lot. They have Charlie Benante, the drummer or Anthrax playing drums on the CD's. They have a "Pearl Jam"/Rock sound.

I recently put the Beatles (White Album, Revolver, Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band) on my iPod and listeded to them for the first time in, oh, almost a decade. Incredibly good and absolutely ageless; I have them all on vinyl but have lacked a needle for my old turntable hence I hadn't heard them in ages. Well worth looking up and listening to.
