Just read the Engadget write up- http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/14/live-from-apples-spotlight-turns-to-notebooks-event/
Looks as though Apple are still going to make the 'old style' Macbook but starting at a lower price of $999
There isn't much detail about them on that above link, and there isn't anything on the Apple website- does anyone know anything about the specification of them or are they staying the same?
Also, what about the 'Blackbook'?

The "old" white Macbook simply dropped $100 in price.
I noticed that they have moved the Black Macbooks to the refurb page for $1099. I suspect they won't last long at that price.

Refurb MBP's are really low, if I was looking at a MacBook right now I'd go for one of them!
Anyway, I doubt they'll stay for long until they make a bottom of the line one at $1099.

they will run out of them and not make them anymore. Apple promised to eliminate PVC plastic by the end of 08

I had really hoped for a the rumored $899 new base price. But even $999 will help sell more Macbooks.
The apple store timed out and now I can't get back in.

Same thing happened to me. I'm in the UK.
Cam anyone send me the link for the refurb section please? I'm interested in the Blackbooks.
Cheers.
