What's the deal with the lack of a 4GB option? I would think this would be a no brainer for a Pro ultra portable like the air... I'm really surprised they still don't offer it.

Nope.
It's ok. We could eventually see it in the future. The Air is new technology I will be keeping my fingers crossed.

In front of my MacBook Pro
The MBA only uses the equivalent of one stick of RAM's chips soldered to the logic board. Seeing as 4 GB single stick of RAM, while they are beginning to be found, are not to common and are a little pricey for a MacBook Air. Expect 4 GB in the MBA when a MBP can take 8 GB.
