Lost My Desktop

I recently got a new hard drive for my TiBook. A couple days ago I installed it. Then I put everything from my old drive onto the new one including replacing the desktop. After that I realized that there was nothing on my desktop. But when I opened a new window and went to desktop everything was there. And the desktop icon changed from the normal window icon to just a folder icon. I would any help on fixing this. Thanks.

Also, no files appear on my desktop. Even when I download a file from the internet it doesn't show. Although it is in the Desktop folder. Help!! This is so weird

Move the files from the folder out and delete the Desktop folder, hopefully after a restart the system should replace the folder and then you can put the files back in
