Howdy all,

My 2.2 GHz Macbook white was stolen from my friends car 2 weeks ago, they smashed the window and took my bag and purse.

I was kicking myself for not getting "Protection Software", you know the ones where it sends a signal when the stolen macbook connects to the internet.

What is everyone using/recommend?

This $1600 macbook is not cheap, and being a student I probably wont be eating anytime soon.

Suggestions?

Don't leave your computer inside your car? Was it within plain sight?

Are you talking about lo-jack?

Im pretty sure for every one laptop they recover there are at least 100 they dont.

I always put mine underneath a seat in a bag, and no one can see it without actually breaking into the car.

Leave stuff in plain sight in the car, that you want to get stolen.

There should be nothing in the car that looks like it has possible personal info, bags (other than used fast food), or anything that has pawn value.

As far as protection software, I think there are some simple things and some that will e-mail you login photos, locations, etc.

Since the machine doesn't have GPS, you'll have to depend on others to find it -- though the login and occasional snapshots of the user can work, unless you surf in the nude.

The simplest thing to do is not leave your laptop in your car.

we were watched the whole time,
i had my bag turned upside down with no logos showing and she put her purse behind the seat in the cover.

it was the feb 2008 macbook.

guessing they saw us leave with no bags, it was pretty sh****, losing my livelihood like that.

Yes I am talking about Lo-jack or a program like that.

It makes sense to purchase right?
What is the best/value?

Don't leave your livelihood out of your sight.

Those mall lots are great for this type of thing, shop and leave since there are people waiting there for cars and merchandise to steal.

Going shopping before going to a movie or for a meal can be costly.

Use a free isight e-mail script to take pictures of people with failed login attempts, and/or when they login. And have these sent to an e-mail account.
