Quick question: Is the screen hinge made of plastic?

Yes, it does appear to be plastic. Sounds like plastic too when I tap on it.

Want to be my hero and post a picture of the side of the computer with the display open.. Every picture apple has is a slight angle, I want to see how thin the display is!

in other words replicate this if you could:

I have not had any issues with it getting hot. I have been using it for the past couple of hours now. I have not heard the fans come on either. Granted, I have only been web surfing and messing with photos so I can't say I'm doing anything processor intensive yet.

I have had issues with my wireless connectivity but only because of my crappy router. I had the same exact issues with my previous notebook which was a 17" MacBook Pro. When I am connected though, everything works perfect!

They're under the keyboard.

The 'speakers' are where the hinge of the screen is.

Good stuff. I'm wondering how far it opens up. My Powerbook opens very wide, meaning I can use it in bed with the keyboard held perpendicular to my chest and still see the screen. The MBA by contrast opens far less wide, meaning in bed the screen would point too far down for me to use it.

I have to think these new macbooks are going to cut into the sales of the mba. they are now so similar and you get so much more for less money on the macbook. the only plus to the mba is ultrathiness which isnt much.

Very much so. It feels exactly like how it was built. Very solid and firm. Hardly any flexing in the case at all. I love it.

Bingo. I picked mine up today and couldn't believe how thin it is. I've owned the air too, and the sacrifices aren't worth it in comparison to this new macbook.

VERY sturdy. :D

Sorry to steal your thunder OP.

strange the hinges are plastic, wonder if its the same on the pros? wonder if they will crack or lose their stiffness over time.....i remember seeing some MBA posts about the hinge developing "play"

i know there's a keyboard backlight, but does the screen automatically dim too?

Odd request, but if you have time, could you take a picture from the side with the battery cover off, so the ports are visible?

I'm curious with how the ports are lined up on the left, how much room there is before the computer ends and the battery/hard drive bay starts.

Thanks! :)

Do you think the back-lit keyboard is a must and I should wait until I have the money, or should I buy now without it and Mod the back light in somehow?

From the pics the backlight doesnt seem too impressive. I thought it would be a dim glow aura type thing but it looks like some micro fluorescent bulbs were thrown under there. I'd do without it but others could like it of course.

Thanks for the pics!

How solid does the screen size feel? Can you sort of bend it in by pressing on the middle it or is it rigid?
