I'm looking at getting a Manx kitten very soon. What would be a good Mac themed name for a female kitty?

I'm still hugely partial to the codename for the first TiBook, "Mercury."

Female?

Lisa (precursor to the first Mac)

then there are all the cat references in OSX - Jaguar, Panther, etc.

What color is the kitty? Got a pic?

for some wacky apple-themed names, check out these sites:

http://www.bendigo.latrobe.edu.au/dssg/mark1/secret.names.html

http://mac.excaliburworld.com/mac-names.html

on the other hand, my cats are named "Bailey" and "Matisse". Two awesome names, if you ask me! :D ;)

Gonna go visit her next week, and hopefully take her home the week after. If she was black I'd name her Panther for sure, but she's a little Calico darling. One of my friends suggested Clarus, and another suggested iPussy :-)

holy crap! that is the cutest cat I have ever seen!

anyhow... what about "Minx"???

PS there is a better site for mac code names, but i couldn't find it (those two seem to be quite old) call out to all members, find that site and post it!

Oh, I'm in a all iBook household. I have a 800 G3 14". I just converted my roommate to the light, she dumped her Compaq for a G4 12" iBook. And my boyfriend even has a 800 G3 12" iBook. I haven't seen any code names for iBooks. I think that would be really cool.

That is an adorable looking kitten demoptera. Congratulations on your choice. I think that Rosebud would make a nice name, Rose for short.

I vote for Clarus

As a calico, she has kind of that dogcow look going.

Very cute.

I have a white cat named Cocoa. That has a Mac theme (though he was named to match a black cat named Casper, not for the Cocoa language).

Ok, watch out, great brain at work... :D

Pod or Mini - small and portable, makes noise, and is a good looking accessory when out and about

Tami - Twentieth Anniversary Mac Individual - at least the only one I know of

Tiger - because by the time she grows up this will have replaced Panther given what we know about their copyrighting of the name.

Ossex - for OS X

Colonel Panic or just Colonel or Panic - ie Kernel Panic - because that's what cats do to your life on occassions - that just go nutz for a bit but we still love them

Expose (with the french thingy over the e) - because cats are always spinning around and changing users, and we can keep watching them spin over and over again. Plus they love rolling onto their backs for all the world to see and they are happy to show their cookie on the way out of the room

...all for now

My cat is named Zippo because it *used* to run very fast. (that was before it got fat and lazy)

My parents call it Zorro though because it is black as night.

You know, I'm going to vote for Claris, just because it SOUNDS like it could be a cat name.

Chop-Chop.

I called one of my cats Chop-Chop when I first got her but it got a bit confusing for me since I had named her brother Cous-Cous. Eventually I changed her name from Chop-Chop to Brazil, partly because she reminded me of a small monkey (Brazil is the monkey capital of the world with more species than any other nation).

Hmm, seems the best "Mac themed" name so far is Clarus. Just watch out if you hear a "moof" coming from her direction...

We acquired a kitten during the build-up to the first Gulf War and 'Scud' seemed a very appropriate name. I subsequently met two other people who had cats of the same vintage and name.

If I was naming a cat now, I think I'd go for 'Warren' (terror) or simply 'Axis'.

I don't have any good suggestions for Mac-related names other than what's already been said, but I feel compelled to post a pic of my little boy. His name is Papillon, which I took from the great book by Henri Charierre.

Here he is:

Hmmm... I like Spike (Codename for the Quadra 700)... I personally have 3 cats, Marco Polo, Sneakers and Everest... Yeah... Check them out at my site (http://homepage.mac.com/ggund/PhotoAlbum3.html). Yeah... all good names... Marco Polo is the multi-colored on, Sneakers is the black one and Everest is the white one... sooo cute!

A cat doesn't have much use for being named, why not leave him/her nameless?

ps: Nanda Devi has posted the cutest cat pic so far

I'm gonna go meet the little kitty at the breeder tomorrow (a 2 1/2 hour drive!). I'm waiting till I see her to pick out a name, but I greatly appreciate the outpouring of suggestions. I have to see if if she looks and acts like a dogcow in person ;-) But did anyone ever find the codenames of any iBooks? Thanks again for all the help! I'll post my decision, but I don't think that will be till next week.

Or Final Cut Pro maybe.

Pismo's kinda cool. (I thought it was one of the G3 laptops not iMacs).

No....you have to name it Plugs.

If you name it Panther Apple will come out with their new OS...the kitty will feel outdated and unable to run new software. :p

In graduate school I took in a three legged cat and named it "Tripod".

Later, a deaf cat claimed me as protector and I named it "Deelay". She seemed to be able to hear a bit, just reacted very slowly to anything I said. Much like the girlfriend.
