I was doing a little searching on Google and came across this:

http://trendnet.com/products/proddetail.asp?status=view&prod=125_TC-NTUF&cat=36

Looks like it's an ethernet to Firewire 400/USB adapter. Anybody ever actually used one? Could this be the solution to the lack of Firewire on the new MB?

I don't see how that would work. Just because you're converting the plug type from ethernet to firewire doesn't mean the MB has the internal circuitry to do the rest.

this is made to get Ethernet protocol on fw for troubleshooting...
apart from the ports working, apple would also have to support it with at least the software, and very possibly the hardware...

Holy Moses - this is just a port converter so you can test firewire and USB cables with TrendNets cable tester. Absolutely nothing else.

I wish people would search forums

False alarm, been posted and researched already, nothing to see here.

But thanks for joining our hopeful spirit. :)

Someone needs to make a sticky with a FAQ containing this info.

I'm kind of surprised at how people can even begin thinking you can magically start using your NIC as a FW-controller though. It just doesn't make sense.

I dont know if will work or not, but eithernet is firewire, its the same ieee 1394 controller, so if not there is one that will. if i find one ill link it.

I read the article, and there is nothing to suggest that ethernet is firewire. They have some similarities, and speculate on a combo controller.

Not quite.

An alternative connector for FireWire can be an Ethernet style jack, but that does not mean normal Ethernet ports are capable of FireWire (IEEE1394) data transfer.
