View Full Version : What to name my Cafe?

Jan 30, 2004, 10:54 PM
Hey everyone,

I am starting up a cafe in a resort town on lake michigan, I would love to hear some name ideas. We will be selling more than just coffee, but tea, capp. espresso etc. but also fresh fruit smoothies, fresh squeezed juices & lemonaid, So really it needs to be a general type of a name, not so much like Cafe Espresso, because we are doing more than just coffee, we are also a bakery. Also keep in mind we are rite by a beach. THINK DIFFERENT! Any Help would be more than appreciated.

How about going with some thing earthy
"natures bounty"
or vauge
"squeezed, mixed, and steeped"
or given the bakery goods
"baked, squeezed, mixed, and steeped"

Star Bistro (Or Cafe)
Smiling Dog Cafe
University of Drink
Baked, squeezed, steeped, and Perked (or any combination of them)
Mi Nit Ea (Mini Tea)
Quark's (Sorry I couldn'y help my self)
"Street Name" Forward
"City Name" Look Out
Beach Boy's
Kelly's Hang Out (Kelly ain't here)

It depends entirely on the location.

Where I live their are so many rednecks that when we got a cafe, they named it "cafe euro-trash" That didn't go over so well so the remodeled and renamed it , "The Nascar Cafe" As a last attempt to make money they renamed it " Cafe Earnheart". Now it is a beauty salon, coincidentally owned by the same people.

If you open it in the wrong place, you might as well call it, "Cafe financial Burden"

If it's one of those cool ultra-trendy cafes with Wi-Fi and doublechocolatte's (eww) like the ones in Singapore, call it "Osmosis". Always liked that word Osmosis......

set up a few tables and stick some emacs on them with internet access and call your business the mac cafe

i do know of a coffeehouse where i live where they have a pc and an imac...but since there were so many coffee spills, the owner no longer offered a laptop at his coffeehouse/cybercafe internet table

emacs are good because they are spillproof and also buy a couple of extra keyboards since someone may spill coffee on one and trash it accidentaly but it won't kill the whole machine as if it were a laptop

awsome feedback! I really like some of those ideas! I worked up some ideas previously www.kurtdenison.com/cafelogos.htm Keep in mind they are all just ROUGH ideas, and some of the logos are repeats for huge lack of time, but just tell me what you think! Thanks!!

Feb 3, 2004, 10:24 PM

I really, REALLY like that "The Refresh Cafe" logo.

Feb 3, 2004, 10:29 PM
"Java the Hut"

Feb 3, 2004, 10:44 PM
the fish logo and the half moose logo (loose moose maroon in color) are the most eye catching and memorable. as for the names you have listed on your page I liked the loose moose and village grounds. the 2 which listed "brew" i feel would be confusing especially with the included moose logo (I would think beer and steak not coffee and bake-goods)

just my 2 cents

Some of these are a bit tongue-in-cheek:

Cup and Cake
Bean and Bake
Brew and Bread
Mocha and Muffin

Drip, Sip, and Tip
A Sip and a Bite
Fluids and Solids (would be a fun sub-title)

Cake by the Lake
Pour by the Shore
Roast on the Coast

You could have a hip, one word title like:

or leiyah (totally made up word)

or maybe something like

Cafe 6

Some other ideas:

Crush Cafe

Cafe Crush

Cafe Astray

Everyday Cafe

Cafe U.S.A. :)

Cafe Today

Today Cafe

Cafe Clay

The Clay Cafe

Allay Cafe

Cafe Allay

I like rhyming ones heh :).

Feb 3, 2004, 11:54 PM
"Cafe Jannet's tit"

"Mymemory Cafe"

"Le petit Cafe del amour"

Feb 4, 2004, 05:43 AM
"Café MacRumors"

"Café Snowflake"
Sorry, it came to my mind, and I just like that one ;)

Feb 4, 2004, 06:23 AM
"Calories DeLuxe"

"Cream de Mer"

"Gottcha attention!"

"Handheld Cafe"

"Centre for the sensorily handicapped"

Good luck anyway!

in my pipe dreams, my place would be called Nice Guy's, or Nice Guy Thom's. of course, my place would be selling more than just beer, but bourbon and scotch as well, but that's a different story... it's kinda corny, but that is what i thought was so cool about it. just enough for people to remember and maybe say, "that sounds kinda fun." there are millions of My Town Coffee House, or So-and-So's diner, etc., but not too many Nice Guys. (btw, if you franchise the name, i get a cut!)

i choose Nice Guy beacuse i've acquired that nickname. i am pretty much a nice guy, but when i get pissed, the nickname has a beautiful irony because i'm anything but.

Don't panic

Blue Moose Cafe'

(Purple Moose works too, just adapt the logo's color scheme)

"The usual place"

and of course

(just make sure you offer the Pangalactic Gargleblaster)

Feb 4, 2004, 11:52 AM
I always wanted to open a place called "Nuclear Holocaust Cafe" with pictures of Enola Gay, Bikini Atoll atomic tests, Civil Defense helmets, Fallout Shelter signs, etc. Cold war nostalgia stuff.

Last time I was in London, I used to eat a lot at a place called "Coffee Shop". Unlike the pubs, they only had about 6 kinds of beer on tap... excellent bitters and ales.

Feb 4, 2004, 11:59 AM
What about "The Pod"

"iCafe" and have a few macs or wireless hookups

Feb 4, 2004, 02:38 PM
Sola Sollew.

It's a Dr Seuss book so you might need to get rights if you wanted to use it.

Hahhahaha :p

How about "The Drunken Clam" (Family Guy)

or "Galactic Café"

maybe you need an out-there name like
"The Improbability Café"

Ohh ohh...."A Bucket of Cream"

Slogan could be: "Two mice fall into a bucket of cream, one shortlyafter drowns, while the other struggles to stay alive and eventually climbs out. Today we are that second mouse."

I think you could just change your name every week, and tell people to just refer to you as the That Place.

This could be cool...That Place is on a sign...but then you have an elctronic sign that changes each week...you could do an online thing to help people suggest names, and even vote.
