iMac as a TV

i just bought a 20" iMac with all the upgrades and was wondering...

1. what kind of tuner would best be used for watching TV on it?

2. what kind of quality would i get out of it for TV use?

it just seems to me that if you have a 20" widescreen LCD monitor, you should be able to watch TV on it! let the feedback begin....

I confess I have zero experience with them, so I cannot judge quality.

I have a Dazzle firewire converter (DV/analog) and can watch TV within iMovie when set to import mode (I have a cable box and Tivo, so i don't need a tuner). I have not yet figured out how to get the TV video full screen...
Anyone know of any applicaions that are inexpensive?

i also have a 20" imac and use it as a tv every once in a while. you should try eyetv by elgato software.

the original eyetv allows for full screen vieweing although at a lower than ideal resolution as it uses usb to transmit the video signal. still, it works very well.

in addition, the company just introduced a firewire version of eyetv that even comes with a remote control!

thanks for the link, i tried vidi, but it does not run on my lombard pb.
anyone know of a similar program?

i have also found btv at versiontracker, and it seems ok, but not sure if it is the best one, and before i pay, i would like to know there isn't something nicer....

Fair warning, don't expect to make this a full television replacement. The lag that these devices cause don't matter for TV viewing, but make gaming pretty trickey.
