LED doesn't light up instantly. Weird noise.

So, supposedly, these new LED screens light up instantly. Well, when I close and then open my macbook while it's running, it takes about 3-5 seconds for it to turn on and in the meanwhile, all I hear is this weird buzzing in the DVD drive. Is this normal?
