I've seen in a couple threads some people have mentioned they're going to order a single 4GB memory stick to update their machines. I was reading there the user manual and noticed Apple said the following:

Each memory slot can accept an SDRAM module that meets the following
specifications:

Double Data Rate Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR3) format
1.25 inch (3.18 cm)
1 GB or 2 GB
200-pin
PC3-8500 DDR3 1066 MHz Type RAM

You can add two 2 GB memory modules for a maximum of 4 GB of memory. For best performance, fill both memory slots and install an identical memory module in each slot.

Are you not able to use a single 4GB stick? And if you can is it still better to use two identical 2GB sticks?

no you cannot use a 4gb stick because each slot supports up to 2gb. the part i'm more interested in is the pin count. if you look for the ram online, it says 204 pin, but apple requires a 200 sodimm.
