When using the 35-Pass option of the free space erasing option of Disk Utility, is it possible to still recover deleted files?

By most accounts the Gutman method (35-pass) is overkill. Not to mention it takes forever. Unless you are a CIA spook, you don't need it. Many say a disk can't be recovered even after 2 passes.

But if you're really paranoid and you're disposing of an old computer, you can always drill through the disk and physically destroy it... Or you could use TNT:D

Wow, really didn't know it was that effective.

Use 7-pass.

what's the best option of clearing disk space for files that were previously deleted, but not securely deleted? are there utilities out there that will zap free disk space (meaning - NOT zapping the entire disk..)
