It's been a while now since the Alum iMacs came out, and lots of folks have them, and people have had a chance to get used to them.
I'm still on a 17" white iMac and looking to upgrade. I've visited the Apple store and BestBuy and sat with the alum iMacs. I like their specs (and realize there may be an update soon), but the Glossy screens I'm not sure about.
I've read and examined the differences between the 20 and 24", and have seen the color gradiant on the 20" I've also done research into color reproduction and TN panels.
My question is just about the glossy finish.
People who have moved to glossy -- do you love it, or it no longer bothers you, or you just really hate it.
I'm trying to decide whether to get a used white iMac or a new alum. Thanks for any responses or notes.

I have had my 24" iMac for 2 and a half months and love it. I have a window behind it so I have no glare issues. I can not say if colors stand out more...To me they appear the same as my 20" G5 iMac..But it is a beautiful machine

i see a glare when i focus on looking for one. However, my brother was over with his "old" MBP and that matte screen had a glare too!! but it was a diffused glare and thus not as noticeable but I bet worse since you may not recognize it as quickly.
as long as you adjust teh iMac once, you wont need to worry about it.

People who complain about glossy just want to sound sophisticated and professional. I think they just like to complain about something. Quite frankly, I've had enough. Just go with the glossy. It looks great.

I agree. I've had my 24" Aluminum iMac with glossy screen for almost a year now and I love it. Unless you plan on putting it in the middle of your sun room (or outside), you should have no problems with the glossy screen.

Yeah, I really dont understand those who complaint so much about the glossy screens. I don't mind them at all. You get used to it.

I don't mind glossy screens as much for desktop machines.

What I think most (and by most I mean like mid 90 percentiles) of the Alum iMac users don't understand is that YES it IS a glossy screen but what is causing that glare is the cover sheet which can be removed with a suction cup.
The LCD behind is is Glossy coated but has a ton less reflective glare than if you put that cover sheet back on.
I leave mine on and currently I sit with my back to 2 very large windows and the glare doesn't bother me. If I take the cover sheet off, there's practically no glare.
Most threads where people are complaining about the iMac glossiness are usually "I hate the glossy, there's so much reflection" but the question that they need to answer is "did you view it without the glass/plexiglass cover? Do that then report back!" Chances are most of the iMac users that are complaining would say "no" to that answer.
Their real complaint should be "I hate glass in front of my screen"

First time glossy iMac user since May '08, overall speaking I love the glossy screen. For weeks, I hooked up the DELL UltraSharp 2407WFP to the iMac as an secondary display. However, the glossy iMac screen really outshone the matte DELL display. At the end of the day, I ditched the DELL 24-incher.
I want a glossy Apple Cinema Display now.

I can understand the discomfort of getting a glossy if it is a laptop but for a imac, its perfect, for me itis

These are really encouraging replies. It gives me much more confidence in considering buying a new aluminum iMac. Thanks for the input.

I think it looks great. Just don't stick it opposite a window.

I bought my mid-07 24" aluminum iMac on the day they were released in August of last year and I love the screen. I upgraded from a 20 inch Core Duo (white) iMac. I much prefer the glossy to matte although I appreciate that others differ with this opinion. I have no complaints with glare.

Be forewarned that getting the glass panel back on without errant dust particles underneath (that resemble stuck pixels which flash) is not an easy task if you do decide to pop the hood.
I use a Power Supply anti-glare film on my iPod Touch mostly to prevent smudging and fingerprints and it basically turns the display into a matte surface at the expense of very slight loss of display sharpness.
This company (http://www.photodon.com/lcdprotect-sheet.htm) apparently markets a similar product in iMac sizes.
