Sound of harddrives

Hi,

Just wondering what it was, and if it happens to other people.

When you click :apple:>Shutdown, restart, logout or if you press control eject, all my (4) harddrives and get a disk access. All the time, I can play with it and make a repetitive tune if I want. But what is it, what check does the OS makes? and Why?

I know its a stupid thread...
