Help! Dead optical drive

Hi,

I recently installed the lastest upate for panther and the cd drive on my emac will not open. Additionally the computer does not recognize the cd that was in there before I installed the update.

I am able to manually open the drive with a paper clip, but it will not function.

I have reset the PRAM, fsck, and check permissions. I'm hoping that some one here may have some wisdom that I am missing before I take this in to be checked.
