iPod touch fan?

When ever I put my ear up to the base of my 2nd gen iPod touch I hear a whirling sound like a fan. So I thought maybe it was static from the built in speaker ,but when I turn the volume off the sound is still there, so is there a built in fan?

as far as im aware, there is no fan.

I also vote no fan. You might want to have that looked at before it explodes... :(
