Looks like G-Maps had launched there downloadable west coast maps (3 GB download). They also plan to offer all the north american maps for 5.6 GB sometime soon. This will be the first app that will offer gps positioning and maps without the use of any internet connection. According to the web site it looks to have route preview and 3d intersections like some car gps systems. Haven't heard anything with regards to turn by turn. Look forward to hearing some reviews.

That is really cool but, how long would it take to download?!! If i read that 964MB for an app! That is ridiculous.

Does the following mean that it covers only certain cities and not the whole state? Also, considering the price, the US map is going to cost a pretty penny!

* Main Features:
-Area Covered : Las Vegas (NV), Los Angeles (CA), Riverside-San Bernardino, Sacramento (CA), San Diego (CA), San Francisco (CA), San Jose (CA), Denver-Boulder (CO), Phoenix (AZ), Portland (OR), Salt Lake City (UT), Seattle-Tacoma (WA), Kansas City (MO), Minneapolis (MO), St. Louis (MO), Austin (TX), Dallas (TX), Houston (TX), Memphis (TN), San Antonio (TX), Anchorage (AL)

Also, you can use it on an airplane? What will it show you? The clouds? Why would somebody use this on an airplane? Very strange.

Finally, it doesn' t say turn-by-turn directions anywhere!! We will see what it can actually do. I hope that it's a true turn-by-turn app!! That would be very cool!

Here is info on the app from the developer. It doesn't seem to be complete: http://www.xroadgps.com/Maps/GMapforiPhone/QuickStartGuide/tabid/2478/Default.aspx

Am I missing something here? Cause it's not available anymore at the U.S. App store...

That is definitely odd. Either the developer doesn't want it to be out yet - from the looks of its website (which is incomplete), maybe it wasn't expecting the app to be released so soon. Or maybe Apple is deciding not to allow these apps until the phone has the capability to provide speed and direction to GPS apps. Who the heck knows anymore with Apple. It seems like the developers aren't even informed as to when their apps will be released!! That is ridiculous!!

One more thing: shouldn't G-Map be an app for the Android phones? One would think that this would be called iMap - maybe somebody else is using that name?
