I'll bet you I'm not alone... I should have made this a poll. DOH!
LOL.

So does the MacBook Pro. From what I can tell, people are trying to use it as a way to better distinguish the MB from the MBP... There is no need.

Well, we called the titanium PowerBook "TiBook", the aluminum ditto "Albook", so why not call the glass-fronted MB and MB FW "Glassbook"?

Actually, we're disguinguishing it from the previous generation of the MacBooks and MacBook Pros.

OK, That I guess I can understand.
How were the last generation Macbooks distinguished from the ones before that?

By speed or processortype. But whenever a new sort of "scheme" surfaces, as we went from the black powerbooks to the titanium ditto, and then to the aluminium and now with another bigger revision (looks), people tend to use something that will distinguish it better. This time around it seems even more important, given the, let's say, lackluster specs in comparison to the previous generation.
Edit: I guess one could call these the BrickBooks, or "Ingot Books", CNC-Books, and so on, but "Glassbook" rolls off the tongue easier, and you don't have to know specifics about the manufacturing process to know off-hand which "type" we talk about.
Edit #2: We also distinguished the black MacBook from the white by calling it "BlackBook". It's what we tossers prefer as it's easier to differentiate.

Last gen white macbooks were referred to as "Penryn Macbook", the one's before were SR Macbook or Santa Rosa Macbook. I think the ones before that were commonly referred to as just C2D (or "Core 2" or "Core 2 Duo"), or possibly as Merom Macbooks. Previous to that was most likely just Core Duo, or "The new Macbook".

What we did in the past was call your mother and she'd tell us the correct term to use.

The reason is fairly obvious
It's because without exception the age of those who make up cutesy, cuddly, little names for their gear are adolescents.
(ladies are exempt ) :D
BTW, go to the MBP forum. It is refreshingly free of this

To be honest, I use it a little as a putdown. But it's descriptive, nonetheless.
