View Full Version : Am about to install Panther - any warnings/precautions?

I also run VPC and use my Powerbook on a Windows network.
So any tips before updating would be appreciated.
PS At this stage I'm only intending to do an update rather than full clean first

No problems with Panther and VPC 6.1
Macromedia MX Studio apps won't work until you apply a patch (download from their Website).
I've had no problems with Photoshop, but others have reported issues. I think the same thing applies - download and apply any updates from Adobe's Website.
Overall, I've been very happy with Panther.

If you're upgrading, repair permissions before and after the upgrade.
You can save time by not installing foreign language fonts and printer drivers. The option isn't exactly hidden but it isn't obvious either. Just look for the button that says "customize". It's on the left a few screens in.
Download the updates when you're done.

my only warning is be prepared to be shocked how different it is from jag, it got better. hehe
but there are some networking issues, i dont find them that big a deal, but some people do

Repair permissions then do an "Archive and Install".
Saves a lot of pain later...
