What's stopping you from making friends now? Get him on Rendezvous and say hi.

Ask him if you can touch it....or better yet, ask him if you could dust it, polish it, and then give it a great big hug. :D

If he gives you any attitude when you're just trying to give props to his hardware, remind him that the setup is going to be yesterday's news 6 months from now.

Oh, and if he's really unfriendly, ask him what his FPS is on Counterstrike.

Geez, might as well kick him in the crotch while you're at it.

What really amazes me is someone can post a thread that shows no meaning of what the thread is about. come on moderators lets look at this stuff? Holycrap is a pretty sorry description by this person who chooses freinds by the computer they are able to buy. Shallow title, shallow person who needs to be struck by a baseball bat.

Hahaha.. oh I love the irony. Like the time my mom said "those people in the middle east just like to fight.. we should kill all of them."

Dual 23" displays? In a dorm room? How does he turn around? :)

Ok, what I want to know is what moron would bring a $13,000 computer to a dorm? I felt bad carrying my $1500 PC to my dorm in college, if I had a $13k computer it would NEVER touch university property.

This is the correct answer.

Ummm... parents who have kids in school with hardware that expensive wouldn't dream of letting them live in a dorm. They buy condos and let the kids live there.

So, I believe the kid with this expensive hardware setup is an urban legend... perhaps an odd attempt by the poster to start a conversation about his "dream" computer.

There are some very lonely people out there...

Probably sufring the web and writing papers in Microsoft Word. Tasks which even a 1st generation iMac is able to do quite well--even on OS X.

So $13,363.95 for the G5, minus $300 for the used iMac he could have had equals $13,063 wasted. Who says the economy isn't good? Bragging rights are expensive!

How else is he going to be able to play Halo, Counterstrike, or Doom 3. From the sound of it, you can barely get over 30 fps on Halo on a G5 and Doom will require at least a dual 1.4 to run with the graphics bells and whistles.

I have to agree it sounds a bit much for a dorm room, but not unbelievable....

I'd be up for seeing pics, though :D

Having seen some of the stereo equipment that kids put in their dorms nowadays, and knowing guys who run server farms out of their dorm rooms... it is not beyond belief.

I'd say it's not very wise - but I can see somone spending that much on a dorm computer.

-Mr. Anderson

Sucking up every spare watt from the local substation most likely.

Everybody will know when he's home because the lights will dim.

What kills me is that this thing probably takes up less space than the machine I Used in college (State-of-the-art at the time) Mac IIsi, Monitor, Bernoulli drive, Laser printer, speakers, etc.

Ah, but those dual 23" LCDs might be slim, they still require significant desktop space....

That's some serious realestate....

Personally, I'll be getting dual 20" displays myself when I get my new machine. I just can't justify having dual 23" for all that extra money.

And with Desktop Manager - its even better - it will be like 8 LCDs :D

There are kids at my college driving brand new $90,000 BMW M3s, Mercedes SL500s, Porsche 911s, etc. That computer system is no more expensive than a dad who would buy their kid a Kia for college. Some people just have their priorities and ask for a G5 instead of a car, perhaps.

If you had a Jetta with a 1.8T and a 5 speed it'd be even sweeter. ;)

The 1.8T is lighter and the turbo can have a pretty good punch, especially with the flexibility of the manual. Generally, the V6 model has softer springs and isn't as sporty as the turbo model. Either way, the Jetta is pretty decent. It's a shame Mitsubishi ruined the Eclipse with the heavy ugly Stratus in disguise.
