I just bought a refurbished IMAC, and its coming in the mail today. I have 4gb of ram ready to install into it (it is the 3.06 version with 2gb), and i was just wondering if i should boot it up the first time with the ram it comes with, or if i can just go ahead and install the 4gb memory before the first boot up without any software problems (dont know why it would matter, but my lack of knowledge is exactly why im asking)

Shouldnt matter

Each time you turn on the computer, it does a self test to check the configuration. It checks for the amount of memory (among many other things) so, from the computer's point of view, it shouldnt matter.

Despite that, I would boot the computer with the original configuration first to make sure everything was working before making changes.

Have fun with it! :)
