How do you sync an iPod with a new computer

Just ordered a new laptop -- how will I sync my iPod?

Will the computer simply download the songs from the iPod or will the computer tell the iPod it has no songs and erase the iPod?

It will sync the iPod using the playlists on the computer. Since there are no playlists it will erase the iPod and they'll be in sync.

Before it does that it asks you if you want to sync that iPod to that computer. Tell it "no", then use a program like xpod to import all your music from the ipod.
