Odds of the new iMacs to include FW800?

As my PMG5 died some time ago, I want to replace it with an iMac. I already have an external HD for Time Machine which was connected to the PM by FW800. I'd like to also do this with the iMac, but seeing how the new laptops began to drop FireWire, I'm not so sure whether waiting for the new models makes sense. The HD also has USB 2.0, but I'd prefer FW800 if I can.

So what would you do?
 
If they cut anything, it'll most likely be FireWire 400. FireWire 800 is backwards compatible.

If they take out both 400 and 800, I'd be quite disappointed.
 
Yeah, that's a tough one. If you can wait, hold on until the new ones come out and make your decision then - if the new ones don't have it, go with the "old" which will have been dropped in price at that time.
 
There is no guarantee that the iMacs will be updated soon. Sounds like you need one now, so I say go for it.

I still have a MBP, so I don't need one right away. I just hope I can still get a customized old one when the new ones come out, because I feel like a base model won't cut it for me. But that might be the problem, doesn't it?
 
i think they'll keep it for now. if not just leave it on the 24" models. the imacs are more of a pro machine than say, the macbook. so i see it living on at least 1 model if not all in the future.
