External Monitor, Keyboard and new Macbook Question

Hi,

Just got my first mac yesterday. I'm using the macbook with my 22" external monitor. I would like to keep the macbook closed while I work on external keyboard and monitor. What do I have to do to make this happen. Everytime I close the lid of the macbook, the monitor shuts down. Thanks
 
Hit a key on the external keyboard (e.g. spacebar) and it will wake it up and put it in clamshell mode.
