View Full Version : Has "GlassBook" become the official slang for the new MacBook?

The old Black MacBook was often dubbed as "BlackBook". Has "GlassBook" been accepted as slang for the new MacBook or is it more of an "unwanted" word like iTouch?

I've also heard "AlumiBook" but I don't like that one.

What do you call the new MacBook?

I like that: GlassBook

Sounds right.

Also I like what a poster above me mentioned several posts ago...

MacBook Pro Mini, it fits...lets look at the facts,

iPod -> iPod Mini or iPod Nano
iMac -> Mac Mini
MacBook Pro -> MacBook Pro Mini or GlassBook

Personally I go with GlassBook or Al MacBook

I prefer calling it what it is -- a MacBook. That's what it says on my MacBook. It doesn't say GlassBook, AlumiBook, or anything else.

Personally I look at people who call it a GlassBook as if they are retarded, because that's how it sounds.

I prefer Glassbook if I am to differentiate those two new Macbooks from the older ones, just like I called the titanium Powerbook "TiBook".

However, If we know we're talking about the glassbooks only, I call the smaller one Macbook, and the bigger MacBook (the one they call "Pro", lol) 15" MacBook, or MB 15", or even MacBook FW (for firewire).
It certainly isn't a pro anything.

Oh, totally off topic, but I just saw the Nagra LB today! :D

I like glassbook. It is a quick way of telling peeps where you are. It sure would be a pain if everytime i had to say MB 5th Gen, and Most people don't know that means Late 2008 MacBook.

Thats a new slang (my new "Late 08 MB")

I never really felt that glassbook fit the way that blackbook did.

My blackbook, Madeleine (that's her name), is 'dead sexy.' The girlfriend loathes her.

What about:

2. AlumBook (that has that nice refined sound like Powerbook + Alumni)

Seriously, get over it.

SITUATION!!!

Let's say I post a thread saying I have a problem, say, installing a hard drive in my Macbook.

How easy is it for someone to help me just given that information?

Now let's say I have a problem installing a hard drive in my Glassbook.

Suddenly they know EXACTLY what model I'm talking about.

If I say Glassbook, you know what I'm talking about, which means it has served its purpose.

Before buying a new machine in the future, perhaps you should invest in either a sense of humor or perspective. It is a fun name, USED IN A MAC FORUM, to describe a particular product. The problem of what to call it to differentiate it from the plastic Macbooks is Apple's fault. This is the only time I can remember such a major design change not being accompanied by a new name. Apple has always changed names when designs or specs changed...Apple I, II, IIc, III, Lisa, Classic, etc. The early Powerbooks, Quadras, Performas, etc. each had their own number suffix. They changed the name of the Powerbook entirely when they went Intel, even though the basic outer design hadn't changed much from the PPC.

Now for the first time (I think), we have a totally new design, without a new name.

I for one, would be happy to call it the Macbook 2.

fuzzielitlpanda
Oct 25, 2008, 05:43 PM
how about we make the alum macbook the official 'macbook' and change the other mb names instead?

ex:

aluminum mb = mb

makes sense to me?

GlassBook is probably the easiest way to distinguish the new MacBooks from the old ones, so at least on these forums it's probably going to be a term that's used a lot. I don't mind it, personally, and since the screen and the trackpad is made of glass it seems appropriate - especially since aluminum + book doesn't make any appealing names.
