View Full Version : I turned in a terrorist to the FBI

This guy who stayed with us gave the whole house scabies (including my pregnant girlfriend). I got to talking to him and he was drunk and told me he was wanted by the feds for war crimes in Guatemala. I did not even hesitate, after talking to my dad. My dad said, "Damn it Chad you are a Libertarian Patriot, deport that son of a bitch!" Now he's in the federal detention center in Tacoma, Wa awaiting deportation. When he arrives back in Guatemala they are going to hang his ass (or however they execute war criminals). I am proud to be an American! :D

Wow, what a story for the kids! How did he come to be in your presence?

You sure it's ok to talk about this online? When I busted a guy with a LONG past in car stereo thefts, the cops told me not to talk about it with others for my safety and the safety of the crime. I don't know why they'd have cared for crime safety, probably press... It was a big deal I guess...

You should have asked him if he was actually guilty of these war crimes.

Fishy story.
Sounds like more of story made in order to state your political affiliation and your desire to kill people in your support for the death penalty.
Besides, even if it were true, and what you claim he said he did, he wouldn't be a "terrorist".

If this is true (I don't doubt that it is, but you never know), it's quite possibly that talking about it publicly may jeopardise the case. I'd ask a lawyer or the FBI whether you should be talking about this. Also, 'war crimes'? If this guy ends up getting off the hook or ever gets out of prison, he might come after you. Maybe I've seen too many movies or read too much, but I'd be wary of too much attention.

Less critically though, well done; not really the hardest decision in the world to make, and law and order isn't just an American virtue, but you did the right thing.

If I lived in the US I reckon I'd be more frightened of gang reprisals than any terrorist group.

At least you know the gang's got the ability to do something about you....

Why aren't gangs classed as terrorists over there? It'd certainly shake things up.

terrorists are politically motivated or are looking for some sort of government response, gangs just like to screw with people

Chundles, meet slippery slope, slippery slope, meet Chundles.

If it can apply to gangs, why not armed robberies? If armed robberies, why not streetfights? If streetfights, why not slaps? If slaps, why not children stealing from a sweetshop? You can't start cracking down on anything and everything that gets on your nerves. For one thing, you end up having something in common with John McCain, and for another, you use totally disproportionate punishment purely as a deterrent. There's a reason why different crimes are punished in different ways. People arrested for possessing recreational drugs are, at least for their first offence, sent into rehabilitation programs and serve typically no or very little actual prison time. People who sell drugs on a large scale or engage in gang violence or murder end up in prison or on death row (in the U.S., at least). Cracking down in such a direct way might have a minor effect, but for many living in poverty and/or enamoured with aspirations to greater wealth, they just don't care.

So you're getting a guy deported for giving your girlfriend scabies? Sounds a little extreme to me, but then I'm European.

Let me guess. He took you into his confidence after seeing your McCain bumper sticker on your car after you drove to an outdoor ATM.

C'mon, liberals. Give the guy a break. He housed and fed him before he turned him in. Doesn't he get credit for that?

Montanachad's posts are all a bit suspect, imo.
