I bought a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter with my MacBook, and it works wonderfully with my LCD monitor. I won't want to spend another $30 for the VGA adapter, but I want to be able to plug into older monitors or projectors that don't have DVI input. Would a simple adapter like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/DVI-MALE-to-VGA-FEMALE-ADAPTER-VIDEO-CONVERTER-FOR-LCD_W0QQitemZ250306844107QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250306844107&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A15|39%3A1|240%3A1318) work?

No, it will not work.

The DVI adapter is DVI-D, which only carries the digital signal. I think the VGA adapter has a DAC in it or something, because I could have sworn DisplayPort only carries digital signal as well.

Also, beware, the VGA adapter failed to work with my 40" LCD TV...seems to be a common issue, something about not enough power output. The DVI adapter with a DVI-HDMI cable works perfectly however.
