Hi guys, Im a Mac only guy since one year now and I wont go back to PC's anymore :p
Anyway Here is my question, I have an Imac at the moment but I work as an Industrial designer using CAD programs (Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, Catia), so I need more horse power.
All or must of the CAD programs are not for Mac OS X, so I have to use Windows OS (oh dear god).

I was woundering the other day if a Mac Pro with bootcamp for Windows would have good results (coz I really dont want to buy a PC anymore).

How are performances of Windows running on a Mac Pro ?
Anyone here ever tried running a CAD program on a Mac Pro with Windows ?

Im lookinf forward hearing your thoughts !!! :)
Thx again guys

I run Auto Cad 2007 from my macbook pro and it blows it out of the water.
In other words, there are no issues at all, so you should have no problem with a more powerful mac pro.

I can't imagine you having a problem running anything on a Mac Pro. Google Sketchup works fine on our 24" Alu iMac.

thx guys :) how is the performance of Windows on MAc Pro vs on a PC ?
Faster ? Same ? Slower ?

Any drivers issues at first ?

Also did you try a 3D CAD insted of a 2D CAD like AutoCAD (im talking like SolidWorks or Inventor)

My Vista64 runs better (snappier) than Ive ever seen it on a PC (last one I owned was a 3.4GHz QUAD with 8GB) - I cant say how it compares to a Skulltrail equipped dual Xeon QUAD as noone Ive met has one.

Personally I have no issues running vista on my Mac Pro. It screams along nicely.

lol inded lest us not forget it was a Mac Book Pro that held the top spot for Vista when the first indepth benchmarks were published :)

Well Well Well ... this is good to know .... Guess on a Mac Pro it should be even better !!! :)
