Clearing Safari history properly

When I use spotlight I see Safari history items from before I cleared my history (also, its set to delete after a week), how do I clear it properly?

Also, are there settings I can change so it does it properly all the time?

History > Clear History
or
Safari > Reset Safari

You're probably seeing Safari history that appeared at the time Spotlight last indexed.
