Windows XP 64 bit Boot Camp

Will this work? 64-bit Windows XP boot camped
i have a 2.1 macbook the prev. generation whitebook
2.1GHz, 1GB Ram, Intel GMA x3100

i plan to run a lil CoD4 or other games on it (like bf2, tf2, CnC3, LOTR2:BFME,)

well i think it can run it after seeing so many videos on youtube with Intel GMA X3100 GPU with a lower clocked CPU soo im thinking i can do this!

The Bootcamp documentation said that only the 32bit one worked with Macbooks, the 64bit will work with the pros.

Without knowing the reason for the statement in the document, the only real way to find out though is to try it.

This is incorrect. Apple does make windows drivers for their hardware for 64-bit Vista. I know this is true because I just installed Vista Home Premium 64 on my Macbook Pro.

The issue is firmware. Early 2008 Macs (and later) support the firmware upgrade that Vista 64 needs. I'm not sure if this is available for your Macbook. I would try www.apple.com/support and look for available firmware updates.

Please note that only Vista 64 is supported, not XP 64.

My apologies to noodleslayer. I misread the title of the post as "Windows 64 bit Boot Camp" instead of "Windows XP 64 bit Boot Camp".

Noodleslayer is correct, there is no driver support for XP 64. There are drivers for Vista 64.

any advice/thoughts on the gaming tho on the intel gma x3100. it'll be running natively so im guessing it'll be better

Try and get the latest drivers from Intel.

This should be the one that the Macbook uses.

Under drivers, you'll want number 2, "Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* XP (exe)."

Depending on the games you're playing, don't expect much from it. It's pretty weak and you'll likely need to turn down a lot of settings (possibly the resolution) depending on the game.

TF2 can be quite graphically demanding, so you may want to play in DX8.1. You can do a google search to figure out how to do that.

Just remember, the GMA X3100 is NOT made for gaming. It's made for low energy use and to provide enough "power" for anything but gaming.

i am using win xp 64bit sp2 on my macbook pro. it does work flawlessly. no problems.

for the drivers you have to hunt on the net.
graphics - nvidia site
chipset - intel site
audio- realtek site
keyboard - input remapper
bluetooth - will not work. i am unable to fine winxp 64bit drivers. (latest beta bootcamp drivers not working)
isight - will not work. also i am unable to fine winxp 64bit drivers. (latest beta bootcamp drivers not working)
ethernet - there are drivers on the marvell site i think. (depends on your chip)
wi-fi - u can find the latest beta bootcamp drivers via torrent. it work for me
perfectly.(atheros)

for your gaming needs i am not sure. i am using winxp 64 for pure dcc & cad works. realflow, solidedge and etc.. works great.

I agree with freebird's post. I also had XP 64 Edition running on a 2,16 GHz MBP. The only thing I could not use was sound, keyboard, backlight and iSight. Everything else worked.

Regarding general capability of Mac hardware to run 64-Bit Windows you can take it to the bank that all Core 2 Duo processors and all Xeons are 64-Bit capable. Hardware 64-Bit virtualization support works on all Mac fitted Xeons and on C2Ds from 7400 model upwards.

Regarding the EFI there is a bug in all 2006-mid 2008 laptop models that prevents you to boot from optical disks with multiple images. That was fixed in late 2008 with the introduction of the unibody models. I believe that Mac Pros got that fix when they changed to the 64-Bit EFI. But on that issue I'm not sure. I have a 2006 MacPro1,1 which has the fault.

XP x64 is a total waste, even MS doesn't support it properly.

If you're going to run a x64 version of Windows, go with Vista or even the RC for Windows 7.

yeah don't even bother with XP 64-bit because it was basically released for the purpose of being a gimmick for the original release of the 64-bit processor (when this was a big selling point at least for buying a new computer.) Microsoft doesn't really support it anymore, and it seems to be pretty sketchy in terms of driver and software support. Yes apple doesn't support it, and its a good thing because it is not really worth their time to support it either.

those drivers (the new ones included with bootcamp) only work with vista, not xp
