I'm curious if anybody has fallen in love and found "the one" for your 3G? What case is it?

Don't laugh:
Otterbox Defender.
Initially I really didn't think I would ever want this case. After much research on the case it has proven to be the case for me. Yeah its nothing to look at and its bulky but it works for me. My friend just bought one at the mall for his newly replaced iPhone. He dropped his down some concrete stairs and the shock killed his phone. Being paranoid he bought this case. I will say I never thought such a case would peak curiosity of strangers. At the Apple store a group of people wanted to check it out. They thought it was a new Apple device for some reason.
I did buy a case by Vaja called ivolution in a cool orange/white combo. its a real looker (bling bling) but for function its not what i like/want. It also may have scratched the back of my iPhone but maybe not. I like the belt clip it came with. I'm keeping it because its just a nice looking/built case. Maybe I'll use it in the future but its "loud". Bought it at a discount.
Also bought a Sena Elega pouch in black. Not much to say about this one. Nice as it is function wise not practical. I couldn't get the phone out fast and it just seems like a pain to keep trying to pull it out
Friend gave me his Incase Slider in black matte but its chipped up after the drop. He said he doesn't want it. Bad luck :p its an ok case but don't plan on using it.

No, not yet.
I have been through 6 cases so far, and not yet...
My first case was this leather belt clip, no name company in canada, lol it was really good but it just was sometimes uncomfortable and not very stylish...
Then my second case was this belkin designed silicon case, not very much protection and loose as hell...that was crap, my third case was my closest to 'the case' it was from the same company who made the belt clip i mentioned, it had great protection, but on the right side of the case it kept clicking when i held it, and it was cause i dropped it and it screwed it up....my fourth case was the switcheasy devil capsule rebel, great case, my fave to date back then, only problems, left high side is a bit saggy, and the bottom is saggy, and back scratches a ton....and looks like **** cuz of that, so i got the switcheasy colors, in purple, pretty good, decent protection, a lil loose on the sides...but it ripped and so yesterday i bought the capsule neo and it is GREAT except for 2 things: the I-frame wiggles a **** load, and the 2 condoms that came with it ripped a bit....that last part doesnt really matter tho...and my reseller wont swap it for me....i plan on buying the black neo and mix up the colors, have the condoms black with the clear plastic and the black I-frame. and sometimes with a white condom and the dark translucent plastic and the white I-frame...but I have heard they fixed the wiggle recently, i guess mine was an old case, so the capsule neo white is THE CASE! (if you dont rip the condom)

co-worker has a Artwizz SeeJacket Crystal which doesn't look too bad if you want something that is going to be for pocket carry. I admit its pretty good for making it look naked. He thinks this is "the" case for him.
Another co-worker has an odd case that looks like tire treads. Its called an iFrogz Treadz Case. He thinks this is "the" case for him.
Even though I'm using the Defender full time who knows, I might use the Vaja at some point. So I don't know if there is a be all end all case :p

Had Contour Flick, Incase Slider, Capsule Rebel, Capsule Neo and I finally ended up sticking with the Marware Flexi-shell. It works perfectly with my best skin ever and stays virtually scratch free because of the material, it's not bulky and is light weight.
Perfect case for me.

I have several since I have different needs.
For the tough trips or sports, the Defender is THE one.
For sleek with good protection, the Frogz that splits apart is great.
A complete body cover by ZAGG is a must for cracks and scratches.
I did extensive research. Trust me.

I dont tink there is ONE exact case for me I now own both Neo's a Rebel, a Griffin Elan form and a SGP ultrathin Crystal and I love them all. I think the Neo's are my favorite though so If I were to pick one case, it'd have to be the Neo hands down.

No not yet, so far I got/tried these cases already:
Griffin Elan Form with Easy dock -> Incase slider black matte & white gloss -> Powersupport AirJacket clear -> Switcheasy White Neo
So far Neo has been outstanding if only they could remove the wiggles, but I really want something that could offer protection without hiding the iPhone aesthetics.
About to try iClear from Griffin.

I wish I did the full body ZAGG when I first got my iPhone. I put my iPhone in a Vaja iVolution SP for a week (the first case it was put in) and when I took it out the back has a bunch of fine scratches (before putting it in it was spotless!!!!) and the bezel has a single tiny fine scratch line on each side. Especially on the silver apple logo (has lines and dots all over it). It bothered me a lot at first but today i could care less. I know now that its in the Defender nothing is gonna touch it and so far I have noticed no new scratches on my iPhone but again, I think I've reached the point of tiny/small scratches don't bother me. As long as nothing touches the screen I'm good.

I've tried about 8 different cases. My favorite of all of them, as well as the case that has topped all the cases I've owned on the iPhone original...
Switcheasy Capsule NEO.

Someone I met at Barnes and Noble had a Capsule Rebel in "Arctic". He showed it to me and he alleges that the case scratched up his phone. The back has a lot of fine scratches and the logo is scratched up as well. I like this case a lot but i settled on the Defender. He told me he dropped it once and showed me the chip it took off the upper left side of the case, very minimal. But he feels the case did nothing for shock protection. I noticed the spine look as if he took sandpaper to it... does the Rebel really mark up the phone?
My Vaja iVolution SP scratched up the back of my phone. Before putting it in I noted the condition of my iPhone. After a week of use i saw a few hairline scratches from taking it out I assume. It also marked up the logo as well with tiny spots and scratches. Not sure how that happened, I guess because I didn't do a wipe down of the Vaja before putting it in? who knows.

My next case im getting by sat. Its the marware sport grip, just a plan silcone case for some sort of drop protection.
If i dont like it ill just take it off and live with my full zagg.
At this point if i dont like the marware im going to give up because by the time i find the case that i Love ill be at the apple store lined up for the next verison of the iphone.

The Capsule Rebel won't scratch the back of the phone on its own. The only thing that I can think of that could've done it is not cleaning the phone off before putting it in the case. If there were something abrasive between the phone and the soft silicon-like material when the case was installed, I can see that potentially causing problems. However, with the hard spine installed, I really don't think the soft inner cover could move that much, so I 'unno.
From personal experience, the back of my white iPhone is completely scratch-free, including the Apple logo, and I've used a CapsuleRebel since one week after I got my phone -- over three months ago, now. I even go as far as setting my iPhone down on a microfibre cloth if it's ever naked just to keep it that way. :P
The bezel, however, isn't so lucky. Despite not getting one with a 'saggy' bottom, it's still not exactly rigid, and will move up and down while in your pocket. Again, any foreign material between the case and the phone, and you'll have scratches, which has happened to the bottom bezel of mine.

my iPhone back is scratched up a little and the logo has fine lines through it from putting it into the Vaja I have. I admit I did not clean it or wipe it down before putting it in. Funny what dust particles can do!
The capsule rebel guy had scratch marks that were almost like swirl marks while the logo just had a ton of lines through it going everywhich way. so i can't really see how the case could do that unless its from taking it on and off? doubt it though.

From an esthetic point of view, I do love the Seido, but from a combination of practicality, protection and aesthetics, I love my slider. The slider has some decent "lay on the table design" as morpheous calls it, it's fairly minimal, and it's dockable. The lay on the table design is important to me since I have dropped my phone twice and think this feature gives the screen a little more shatter resistance. my .02

The Seidio Innocase II surface with anti-glare front protector.... but I use my switcheasy color headphone plug and port plug.... can't even tell they're not made for this case... also I used a old anit-glare.. cut it and placed a portion to protect the apple logo...
This case does have lay on the table design... i've actually dropped mine.. well through it on my bed and it bounced off onto my hardwood floor... it took a direct hit on the back... no mark on the cover and no marks on the phone....
just so you guys know I thought the Capsule Rebel was the case for me... until it scratched my bezel....

Sorry to hear this. My iphone is taken out of my Vaja case on a daily basis to charge in my dock. I have yet to see one scratch, or any fine lines in the phone.
I HIGHLY recommend the Vaja case as the one and only case to buy for the 3G.

my Zagg is......ok. but i have a couple bubbles that wont go away and some of my edges are coming up so i might have to let it go. but i think the SGP or Seidio will be the perfect case for me because i really like how minimal they are. im having trouble deciding between the sedio or the sgp though. that sgp carbon fiber might just win because it looks so nice!

I used to feel the same way.
However, lay of the table design shouldn't be a concern with the Seidio. It has enough of a lip to provide more than adequate protection.
The Incase certainly has more shock protection but the Seidio is by no means a slouch in that department. The only place I'd give the Slider an advantage is at the corners.
I'd gladly trade it for the smaller case "footprint" any day, however. My iPhone feels like a brick with Slider compared to the Seidio.

I really like the inCase Slider (http://www.mobiriot.com/2008/10/19/product-review-incase-slider/) because the bottom 'slides' off so you can easily use docks.
I've actually stopped taking the bottom off because my wife and I just pop our phones on docs without the adaptors. (An Apple Store employee suggested it.) Makes using 2g and 3G phones on the same equipment much easier.
The case is slick so it slides in your pocket easily, but is a tough shell for protection.

I've got 5 different cases from SENA, a Piel Frama, two from iSkin and one from Krusell. I'm still missing The Perfect Case but the Magnet Flippers from Piel Frama and SENA are nice.
That said, I think the SENA Dockable is the way to go if you like leather, I've always preferred snap covers rather than magnetic ones. I de-magnetized a rail ticket only a few days ago with a Magnet Flipper, so that's one downside for you!
Review of the SENA Dockable: http://www.gadgetoid.com/2008/10/15/sena-dockable-iphone-3g-flip-case-review/
And the alternative from Piel Frama: http://www.gadgetoid.com/2008/08/15/iphone-3g-piel-frama-flip-cover-leather-case-review/
Alas, I think cases are more a matter of preference than anything else and, when all is said and done, I wish the iPhone was tough enough to be used and carried outside of a case altogether.

I have a 3G and I have several cases.
I like a bulky, well protected one and if I am dressed for biz, I like something less so.
I use an OtterBox Defender for killer protection and I found something really cool on eBay.
I have a full body skin (front and back) from Invisible Shield and then I put as Black leather skin on top,
It looks great and the leather skin cost $5.99 with shipping from Hong Kong and took less than 7 days. I got the leather skin from xbest_dealx on ebay.
I put that in a Silicone case if I need more protection. There are a million of those around.
The Leather is cool since it is very rare and makes the phone very easy to grip.

so now I've used my Seidio for 3 weeks now... first week was off and on.. but for 2 solid weeks now the only case that's carried my phone.... just some feedback on this case...
1. the case itself still looks 100% brand new... I wipe it down with iKlear every few days and it's still 100% new
2. to the people worried about dust/dirt getting onto the backside of the phone through the hole... not going to happen... atleast from my time with the case... the back is still 100% brand new... (however I do use a square of anti-glare screen protector i cut out from a powersupport anti-glare sheild)
3. My chrome is 100% mint... besides the few scratches from my capsule rebel which is long retired.

Buy all the cases you want. Spend $20 here, $30 there and still not be happy. Add up all you spend for the cases that are left in a drawer never to be used again. What you should have done was ordered the one and only case you will ever use.
The Vaja leather case for the 3g is that case. Perfect fit, top notch leather and the feel, and smell of the perfect leather is hard to explain. $80 for the LE Black and Red might seem alot, but again, add up what you wasted on inferior cases, and the price is not all that bad.

that is why I think I plan on keeping my Vaja orange and white even though I really hate the flip (really annoying to me). I'm using the Otterbox Defender now and really like its protection values. I've met a growing number of iPhone users who have chipped and cracked glass and these people had cases on their phones. So call me paranoid I like the otterbox a ton.
The Vaja is just made really well but I'm unsure how it would survive a fall, probably decent. A shock (well this is drastic as it bounced down a flight of concrete stairs) killed my friend's iPhone and he had an Incase Slider on it (We should have taken pics). What are the chances of something like that happening again? Probably slim but he was so paranoid that he went to the mall and bought the same case I use and now has peace of mind to a certain extent.
I just met a kid at Best Buy that had a cracked glass screen. HORRIBLE. Its right in the center and spiders out to the side. He said he can not afford to buy a new one and he can not afford the repair cost. So he's waiting for the 32GB iPhone to come out and will retire the "cracked" iPhone. He had dropped his on concrete (don't know specifics) and it wore a Seidio. He did have a screen protector. I just felt for the poor kid, he was using Safari and you couldn't make out the text at times.
I say there is nothing wrong with buying and exchanging in the pursuit of the perfect case. Don't keep them all if possible. That is a big waste of money. Return or exchange them if you can. Find one of these "unknown" kiosks at the mall that carries all the hard to get cases under the table [meaning they do ebay] (Otterbox, Vaja, Sena, Incipeo, Seidio, Capsule Rebels, etc...) and they will usually let you try anything and let you exchange them (no money back) within 2 days or something... plus they give you good prices, heck they might even sell you a unlocked 1st gen iPhone for cheap! :D

Vaja? is that the swiss enunciation for father. No? Did you watch Gold Member? Yes, I think so.
BTW I dropped mine from about 30" onto concrete with the mate black slider and PS crystal. Got a little scuff on the slider at both right side corners and the crystal lifted up a little on the upper right corner, but not a scratch on the phone. I love my slider so far!!

i really like my Power Support Air Jacket (black)
very slim, the phone still slides easily into my pocket. adds almost zero bulk and therefore almost feels like no case at all, but the back and edges are protected from dings and scratches, the screen is protected by the supplied crystal film. comes also with matte antiglare film, you can install either. I suppose if you wanted to, you could still put the whole thing into a leather belt-mounted holster if you wanted, it's so slim.
my only complaint is that a tiny sliver of the matte black color (paint?) has worn off the left front edge, especially near the volume button. but the whole rest of the case and back are still like new, so just something about that very edge. I imagine the clear AJ would look really sharp, even with a black iPhone.
also had a generic silicon case for the iPhone before but didn't like how it picked up lint and didn't slide easily into my pocket with it's slightly tacky rubbery feel.

Had the Capsule Rebel Arctic on my first iPhone 3G. Had a "saggy" bottom which scratched up the the bezel below the home button.
I then switched to the Incase slider. This also scratch my bezel on the corners after normal use.
Yes I did wipe down my phone and the cases before use. I also cleaned them every few days with a microfiber and iklear.
I got a replacement iPhone. I installed a full body Bodyguardz with an Otterbox Defender. Phone now has ultimate protection and is still mint.

The case that came with my iPod Video 60GB has worked exceedingly well for me. It kept my 2G iPhone scratch-less and my 3G iPhone scratch-less as well. And the best part is that I didn't have to spend a penny on it, as I kept it when I sold the iPod Video :)

There seem to be a few good cases out there and so it will probably come down to preference. That said, I think the Switcheasy Capsule NEO is excellent. I read quite a few reviews before I purchased it and while some people complained that it was difficult to put on, I thought it was just as easy as the Switcheasy Rebel which I have on my iTouch. I think the Capsule NEO doesn't take much from the iPhone's sleek contemporary design while doing a great job of protecting it.

Bought the CapsuleNEO in black about three months ago, its really a great case and awesome bang for the buck with 2 silicon pieces, 2 screen protectors, headphone and dock port inserts, the stand and the I and H frames. Mine had somewiggle...and call me what you'd like, it bothered the hell out of me. I also didn't like the raised logo on the back that made the case teeter left and right more than a naked iPhone when on a tabletop. Wiggle and teeter aside I will still recommend it to anyone interested in it.
However, I recently purchased a black Power Support Air Jacket and couldn't be happier. Easy to put on and take off, and does exactly what I wanted in a case from the start...keep the back from getting scratched. I also am astonished at how well the Anti-Glare screen protector is at keeping the screen free from fingerprints.

Well, I thought the Capsule Neo was my perfect case, and then I tried the Griffin Clarifi on for size. Not only do I love the look of the case, but it protects well, and has a built in macro lens. I believe I'm 100% satisfied with the Clarifi for the moment, and it has replaced my Neo.

I had the Griffin Elan Form when I first got my 3G. Was great for the first couple weeks but then the plastic loosened up and I got a bunch of dust and dirt and scratches from it. I just got the Incase Slider (my original first choice, but the Elan Form was available first) and I absolutely love it. It's super snug, is smaller than the Elan Form, and looks way cooler in my opinion. My vote is for the slider.

CapsuleNeo will be my vote, it just protected my iPhone from liquid damage - I'm thankful I had this case on.

Not yet. The Vaja case I have is pretty good but not "perfect".

I believe I have found mine. I just received the Orbino Pantera in pecan. Yes, it was expensive but it also looks expensive.

The iPhone 3G Slim Fit case (http://www.inspiretech.com/p-376-iphone-3g-slim-fit-case-black.aspx) from Inspiretech is the one I have. Inspiretech is usually my go-to site for basic iPhone accessories. They don't carry everything but they seem to have everything you really need for a pretty good price. Hope that helps!

My first case was the Rebel. It was way too bulky and i didn't like the look of it. Second was Colors. Don't like the bottom of the phone face to be covered. 3rd case White Incase Slider. Love it. After a while i was itching for something slimmer. Then came the iFrogz Luxe. It is the perfect case. It adds very little bulk yet i feel it's well protected. I'd like more colors. White and an army green.
Edit: Just want to add that the iFrogz is very easy to get on and off. I know some of the Youtube tell a different story, but really it's easy.

well ive had the griffin elan form leather case (black) and liked it but felt it was a tad on the "big boy" side. Then i got a bodyguardz (went thru 4 of them) and just couldnt solve the corner issues to 100% satisfaction.
Then I got a replacement phone and took the opportunity to get a gunmetal incase slider and some powersupport films. love the case but I couldnt get it to work without bubbling on at least one corner of the powersupport films (i own both versions, crystal and anti-glare)....drove me nuts. Wasted one of each because i kept taking them off and particles would get in.
Then by accident I stumbled onto a griffin iclear at target, the one that comes with some armband thing. I like it cause it has a removable clip and my anti-glare doesnt bubble (a fresh one that i put in). it was $9.50 and came with a film, armband and some microfiber (or silk) piece of cloth to clean the phone (dont know i didnt open those things). I think ive reached the end of my case searchings for now. If anything ill look for more compatible films that can work with all my cases (still have them all) without bubbling on the corners.
