Do you have to have .mac to create an account or AOL?

You need .Mac, AOL, or an AIM account. Thats it.

No, you do not need a .Mac account to create an AIM screenname. Creating an AIM screenname is free and is easy to do. Go to the website at http://my.screenname.aol.com/ and register.
