Anyone try the demo? Impressions?

I'm planning to try it this weekend at some point...when I find time.

I played it last night on the PS3 (currently downloading it on the 360). The game is pretty interesting but the thing that stood out the most was how jaggy the game looked in comparison to all the videos I've seen.

I like the game....I was always going to get it anyway.

EA is surprising me with every turn...Bad Company, Dead Space and now Mirror's Edge.

Army of two who?:p

I really loved the demo. It's the same level they have been showing in most of the videos, but I was still pretty impressed! It felt like a 3d first person sonic game (but it was actually good :P).

Yeah certainly a lot of AA issues on the PS3 version. :o Guess it's too much to hope they sort them before release. Maybe the 360 version will be better, let us know phobic99

I think the PS3 is the main dev platform for it. Not 100% sure, but they do seem to love the PS3. That's what they seem to always be demoing it on. But hey, I could be wrong :P. And the PS3 gets exclusive DLC.

I'm guessing it's just a demo issue, and hey, that's why patches exist :\.

Well you'll be piss to know both version have the AA issue....in fact they are identical so if AA is bothering you then your gonna luck out on both versions.

It will all come down to what controller you like and if DLC is your cup of tea...For me its PS3. I never buy multiplats on the 360.

Oh well if both are the same, then I'll just get the PS3 version. AA and Jaggies do bother me, but not as much as piss poor gameplay and thankfully Mirrors Edge doesn't fall into that category going on the demo, so it's still on my 'to purchase' list.

Its also a demo, they could have removed some aspects of the game engine, or it could be running on a early version of code. The key there would be to save space and make the DL smaller.

I liked the gameplay a lot though, so AA be damned I'll be buying this game.

Yeah I really like the direction they went with this game. FINALLY! A game that you can get fully immersed with. I mean don't get me wrong, mindless shooters are fun, but given the choice, I'd choose this game. Hell, if my little brother weren't hogging the PS3, I'd go play it now...

I tried the demo today, and it's okay. Definitely not a purchase for me, but it succeeds at what it's trying to do. The graphical style is awesome, and I really don't notice that much jagginess to be honest. Looks great to me!

I just can't see this game holding my attention for very long, and there's too many other good games out right now.

Just played the demo yesterday and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Not sure if it's really worth $60 over titles like LBP or Fallout 3 though, which I know I will be playing like crazy over the next 2 months...

I doubt this game will win an award as best game of the month/year or watever .. since this past two months there had been many new great next gen games. like Saints Row 2, Far Cry 2, Gears of War 2, Mercs. 2 (notice all these cool games have 2 next to them and all released on about the same month), Tom Clancy's End War.. and more coming up in a couple of weeks

so technically im not really sure what game this month im gonna buy. But its defnintly not mirrors edge:D

Im waiting for reviews to say how long it is, I have a feeling its going to be extremely short. I mean the demo itself is literally under 5 minutes long for your first play-through.

I'm interested in this game, but it doesn't feel like a $60 game. Probably because its so different. If it reviews good, christmas is just around the corner.

Going to pick up Resistance 2 tomorrow night (YES!!!). But then I'll get this as soon as I see it in a store! Can't wait, the trailers look great, the demo is sweet. I hope the campaign is long, but time trial will keep me busy.

360 & PS3 demos are identical graphically, however I did prefer the 360's controller. The triggers felt better suited and as most of the action is grafted onto the triggers - that could make quite a bit of difference to a 12-20 hour game.

Definitely a purchase regardless, just can't decide what platform to buy it on.

Oh and I don't think I've played a 'demo' of any game as many times as I have this now.

The music alone is gripping me to this game...I still suck at the combat though but I'm practicing as much as I can with the demo.

I liked the demo, but I had a bit of difficulty with the "jump towards a wall, turn around midair and jump off the wall to something even higher" part. I kept just turning around after I jumped and fell on my back. I finally got it, I think I was turning around too early, but yeah, I have a feeling it's going to be a bit of a learning curve. Fortunately the game seems so good that spending more time playing it to get better isn't going to be an issue :p

So anyone pick this up yet....I'm going to get it tomorrow after work. I read some of the reviews and it seems to be a short game but that doesn't bother me. So far its holding a good score overall and thats good enough for me.

I was thinking about picking this up and COD at the same time but I can't take another shooter right now...I just finish up R2 single player campaign and haven't touched Co-op or competitive multiplayer as yet.

Yeah mine shipped from videogamesplus.ca

Oh wow, it's fun :D. The gameplay is just so addicting, even when I die I don't mind trying again. The levels are pretty varied. The game seems to be a decent length (but they could have made it longer....). Got up to half of ch 2 in an hour, about 9+ chapters I think... The thing about this game is that it's just fun, I love retrying and the time trials will be really fun. If you liked the demo, I'd get it. If you are unsure, wait for a sale.

*ya, there are some AA issues, but I don't really notice it when I'm moving*

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one...I popped it open this morning charge up the official PS3 headphones and I was on a non stop SOCOM fest and it was smooth as butter.

The reviews only seem to attack the server issues but the gamplay is as solid as SOCOM 1 & 2...If you are a fan for SOCOM then this game will do justice.

Have you considered gaining weight?

I considered it but then the GF wouldn't like that much and if she's unhappy...no game time for me....and the other stuffs:eek:;):D

Liking Mirror's Edge so far, though it can be frustrating at times. The "blues" are annoying as hell, I understand they have to be there but the fighting mechanics aren't good enough to counter their difficulty.

Well i just started playing today as it took ages for my copy to arrive from canada  anyway.... I decided to turn off runner vision and reticule (other than weapon) from the outset.

I'm playing on EASY for one reason.. I am trying to play the game utterly as a pacifist and avoid confrontation, and so far it's working well. Difficulty in Mirror's Edge only affects the Blues confrontations, and therefore it seemed pointless playing on harder difficulty as what intrigued me about this game was the prospect of playing it avoiding such.

Already won the pacifist trophy, and such.

I decided to turn off runner vision to enhance the game for me, bright red glowing path's took away from the atmosphere for me, and after playing the demo a heck of a lot, it becomes pretty easy to learn what you should be looking for.

Turned off Motion Sensor also, as I found that next to useless.

I like it...... so far.....

I ended up sending it back to Gamefly and not finishing it. Dealing with the cops and what not wasn't worth the effort to me anymore, there's plenty of other stuff to play that I get more enjoyment out of.

Surprisingly though it didn't give me any motion sickness, I was worried more about it with this game than anything. I'll at times get it with some first person shooters but didn't even think about it with Mirror's Edge.

That review was hilarious, course then I listened to his GOW2 video review and it I suspect all of his reviews have the same tone. Anyway I just played the Mirror's Edge demo and I kind of liked it. But after reading several reviews, now I'm not so sure although I am sure it's not worth $60. I'll have to go troll ebay and see how cheap it's running. Or as the reviewer mentioned, just play through the demo several times and you'll have experienced it all.

Once you start running there seems to be impulsive split sec decision moments where you might frequently end up launching yourself into oblivion. :)

Any replay value at all? I skipped through most of the replies, anyone here who bought the game and still loved it at the end?

Mar 30, 2009, 09:29 PM
I can see there being replay value if you're really into speed trials. Getting really good at this game would be fun to do and watch...bad thing is you get moving so fast you make some stupid mistakes over and over and over and I get uber frustrated...to the point of almost throwing controller through the TV.

Hate minor things that the character "can't" do suddenly to force you to do it their way...really lame when they do that...but it is kind of fun. I almost enjoy doing this more in Prince of Persia though...

Frustration rocks. :D This game hasn't got on my nerves yet. I'm only playing on normal, as it was my only option, so when I play, my pace really hasn't been hampered by redos.

I rented it from Gamefly too... I got frustrated to the point that I was reluctant to finish it. Yeah, no rentals does suck, especially when some games aren't worth their asking price. There's also the LAME EA Download Manager that's installed with their games now days. Anyways, I just waited for the price to drop into the thirty range since they made me wait. If it had been released with in the same time period as the others, I would have paid full price.
