Does anyone else notice that the site is loading really slowly?

um, yeah, good excuse;)

I am curious what happened though, because its not like there were that many people online when it was going on.

reminds me of what happened some weeks back, when arn told us the server starting eating up tons of ram for no particular reason. serious slow down back then.

slow downs like that seem to happen here at MR every few weeks regardless of the number of people online. arn usually gets things sorted out quickly.

hey! it's true...I don't need to boost my postcount by double & triple posting...

I'll admit though that I didn't think it would matter much after I finally got back on that there was a double... ;)

Well, it happened again.

I think we'll need to start up an XServe fund soon so we can get arn one in 2003....

I just hope these random RAM epileptic fits don't happen more often or during MWNY

yeah I saw that...

I felt like an addict who needed a fix and couldn't get anything while I couldn't connect!!

What concerns me is that this is the second day in a row. I wonder what's going on. If this happens tomorrow then we might be in trouble.

imagine the chaos if this happens during MWNY?!

I don't think people would even know if it happened during the keynote, the system will slow down then even without this little hiccup, so they'd just imagine it was too many users trying to get on.

Wouldn't be fun, no matter what...

true...

remember also that arn's setting up an IRC for the event...

I hope it works out...but we'll see... ;)

I'll be very interested to see how much effect the IRC has on the site load. If we could get some data on that after the event that would be cool. It will be hard to out do WWDC for numbers of members online at the same time, but with all the new members it probably will happen. I don't look forward to seeing the 'you can post now' screen. I'll end up going somewhere else to get info on the keynote like I did last time.

I liked the old one better, It was smooth like OS X, the new one is to boxy, it remids me of a winblows site.
Just a thought.

Well, that will definitely help, but you'll also have a lot of people in the forums, but reloading the simple html text file is great, don't remember it, funny that.

where did you get the updates from? Where you doing the updating yourself? How are you going to handle MWNY if you have to work?

Today I noticed that in OmniWeb 4.1b7, the new page layout loads incorrectly. The right column is very thin, about 30 pixels wide. The headings are full size, though. The rest of the page seems to be rendering correctly. In addition, it seems to render correctly in Internet Explorer 5.1

AmbitiousLemon

thats pretty typical for ow. it seems to have problems positioning things. most people never notice, but the majority of sites ow renders have issues like that. good news is that the next release is supposed to have "improved standards support" ... we can hope right?

I think it is an Omniweb Beta 7 problem... 4.0.6 works. I'll see if I can fix it... but it's a bit variable a problem... it works sometimes, othertimes no...

it could be me....

AmbitiousLemon

its not you...

the whole site seems to have slowed down. ive been having problems posting. get the connection timed out response. it goes through after i try a few times.

jelloshotsrule
Jun 6, 2002, 05:02 PM
it's slower than it's ever been.....

it takes like a whole minute to load a page and even then it doesn't do it thoroughly...

i thought perhaps a local storm was messing with our cable and whatnot....

i guess it's good it'snot just me. though it affects more people this way. hmm

AmbitiousLemon
Jun 6, 2002, 05:11 PM
the slow down is pretty similiar to past slow downs. btw im in CA so looks like its coast to coast. id assume the international kiddies are having the similiar issues.

we're starting to see these hiccups each day now...

maybe there's something going on within certain time frames?

It seems to be mostly fixed, however the MacRumors column, second from the bottom is wide enough, but the text is too wide and runs off the edge. It's odd because I never noticed either problem, until the other day. Thanks for running a great site

Since I can't start a new thread, or send PMs, I'll have a go here in 'Site Problems'.

For some reason I do not have permission to do some very mundane things (send PMs, start a topic, reply to some other topics, or vote in polls).

Is this a setting on my end? It doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason.

if it continues email arn, hes the site contact on the main page and tell him your problems.

good luck,

sometimes the images (such as the buttons on top like "user cp" and "members") were not showing up... it had a broken link image instead.... weird.

I would understand it if it was happening when many users were online, but it seems to be the opposite. It seems to me that it happens right before many come online, and goes away after about 10 minutes... again, weird.

I did think that the old one was better, I think we should have a vote to see what people like more.:)

I've been getting that more & more in the past few weeks...

I end up restarting IE...it fixes it temporarily...

I noticed that it was very slow recently!

But I always think that its IE.

Also the board sometimes seems quirky to me,
example, I posted a thread and it double posted,,,
I did not double post as far as I can tell.

Arn! could you delete one of them puhlease!

Hey it like calling on the gods.

There was a point earlier today when I couldn't even load the page. It said, "couldn't load page". I thought it was my connection, but it was just MacRumors and now it's back up. Sweet!

Anyone else have this problem? What's the deal?

There were a few problems earlier today with the site. If you check out this (http://www.macrumors.com/forums/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=6729) thread there is discussion about it. Nothing spectaculor though.
