I'm trying to measure the power usage of the new aluminum macbook. I'm using two instances of CPUTest to load the CPU. I normally use ATI Tool to load the GPU in windows. Can anyone suggest a program for loading the GPU in Mac? It would be nice to monitor the GPU load and temperature like you can with the advanced Nvidia tools in Windows as well.

Thanks.

GLView (http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/) has a benchmark mode.

Does CPU test do anything beyond creating an instance of "yes > /dev/null" per procesor/core?

Thanks Eidorian, I've quickly tried the OpenGL Viewer.

It appears the 9400m in the new Macbooks takes about 8 watts over it's idle power consumption when loaded. Seems like a pretty impressive number for the 2344 3DMark06 score for this GPU.

The total power consumption for the Macbook with the battery removed, bluetooth off, and screen at maximum brightness:

Running two instances of CPU Test and OpenGL test = 41Watts
Running two instances of CPU Test = 33 Watts
Idling = 15 Watts

I will post a more detailed rundown of the power consumption numbers along with temperatures and fanspeed over at silent pc:
