I have the MacBook, so it would be nice to watch rented movies on a TV rather than the smaller screen... I'm also interested in Boxee, but am not sure if it's reliable enough for me to base my decision off of. I attempted to hook my macbook to the tv, but the quality was not very good...

You don't really give much information - but I'm assuming you know what the tv is and isn't capable of.
I have a Macbook and tv - the quality of MacBook --> TV isn't fantastic, you'll appreciate the better quality and less of hassle.

I suppose the question is simply do you want it? :)

What kind of television do you have? If it is an HDTV, and you connect your MacBook to the TV via DVI, then the picture quality should be quite good. Makes me think you have a CRT television, in which case an Apple TV won't work. (There are a few exceptions to this).
