Missing Menu Status Bar with Panther

Can anyone help? After a clean installation of Panther, I don't seem to be able to get any icons on the menu status bar, inclusive of Fast Switching, Battery etc. Anyone encountered the same issue? Pls help.

My third party menu bar items had to be turned off and then, on again to allow them to work although they were there.
