When i decided to buy a laptop 2 months ago i thought that i would get a mac. I needed one for college and apple computers are reliable and are cool looking. I didn't need all the bells and whistles but i wanted a good computer so i got a refurbished black macbook. Its the 2.4ghz with 250g of memory. It was like 1200 so i thought id pick it up. It thought it was a great idea but... From the moment i opened it i know there would be problems. On the screen was a long straight smudge that was caused but the plastic piece between the track pad and the keyboard. It was slightly raised up and touching the screen. I wiped the smudge away hoping it wouldn't return but a week later it was back. I brought it to a registered repair center to get it fixed because along with the screen there was a clicking noise on the track pad button. I picked it up the next day but the problems just got worse. The guy replaced the piece that cause the mark but only made it worse. The new piece was even worse so i called apple. They sent me a box and it came back in 3 days. They replaced the keyboard, track pad, and the plastic piece. The new track pad didn't work though. I sent it in again last week and just got it back today. The hing on the screen is getting progressively louder squeaking and cracking. The light on the isight camera wont go off but the track pad works this time. What is with this laptop? Is it a lemon? Should i cut my losses and sell it and buy a new one? If the screen gets any louder i am going to have to send it in again and this would be the 4th repair. At what point do i throw it against a wall?

Four repairs in two months, and it's still not fixed!? That's really crazy. I would call Apple and ask to speak to a supervisor and demand for a refund. It's a refurbished, not a broken computer. Apple should stand by the product quality.

I'd echo the previous poster. Apple, at their discretion, will play ball with you if you have a "lemon". If it were me, I'd return it a few more times just to be sure, and to show them that there is REALLY something wrong with the computer. Eventually, if you are persistent enough, they'll help you out. my advice is just to be patient and persistent.

When i call in to talk to them about the hinge i will try and talk to a supervisor. I bought a mac because i need mine constantly. I have papers to write and all my notes are on it. To have it gone 3 days every other week is really hurting me.

Congratulations! But then that's the way it should be with Apple :)
I hope everything will be perfect with your replacement. Let us know!

Are they sending you a new refurbished black one? or a BRAND NEW black one? (They probably have a few left in the warehouse, so they said why the heck not).

Actually, neither. Sending me the current aluminum macbook, the top one too. THey said they have to give me the same specs as before. I was like no way but he said it will ship when i ship mine back to them. I almost cried.

Just a word of advice. Check the new one carefully. And if there's anything wrong, call them before the first 14 days is over, and ask to speak with a product specialist. Anything bad within the first 14 days = a replacement again. The first two replacement they sent me had flaws. The first one had a bad trackpad button and the second one had a bad P key. One of the product specialist said, "Since it's been less than 14 days, I have to replace it." I was saying to myself, "Hmm, that's good to know." :D So, when the second replacement was bad and I called Apple, the guy wanted me to bring it to a repair centre. I said, "No way, its not even 14 days old." :D
