Hey everyone I am looking into buying an old Mac just for 2 months and for basic home needs. Then, in Macworld I am going to get rid of it sell it and buy a new Macintosh computer. Any ideas??? what I should get.

What are your needs?

I would possibly try to avoid the imac, as if they update the line the prices can only plummet.

If you just need basic internet and email, get an older g4. I have a dual 450 that I bought for 50 bucks that is fine on the internet and email. Nothing special, but for 50 bucks you can't go wrong.

Here on craigslist there is a guy selling a couple of power mac g4 400 MHZ (single processor) for 70 bucks.

If your needs are greater, then perhaps a G5. No update to mac pros should let them keep their value.

For the record a G4 is a PowerMac.

Anyway, go find a Quicksilver for around $200-300. Otherwise get a MiniG4 for probably around the same price. Or get an iBookG4 for, again, around $200-300. You haven't mentioned what you'll be doing, but if you're looking for old Macs like this then it can't be anything special.

Why? Can't you just wait two months?

Otherwise, yeah, get a G4 PM tower or perhaps an eMac. Though only the very last ones have USB2.

Get an old powermac g4, then you can turn it into a server or back up drive on your network. Love messing around with old computers, wish I had a reason to now.

Also don't base your whole time line on that event. Though there is some logic that suggests that the MP line's next update could very well be introduced then it is far from a certainty. More a relatively strong rumor at the is point (if it is possible to have a "strong" rumor)! ;)

Head for eBay, search for Mac Mini G4. You should find one for circa $200, maybe less. Afterward, you've got a nifty little computer that could act as a server of some sort in your house.
