The movement of American factory jobs and white-collar work to other countries is part of a positive transformation that will enrich the U.S. economy over time, even if it causes short-term pain and dislocation, the Bush administration said Monday.

The embrace of foreign outsourcing, an accelerating trend that has contributed to U.S. job losses in recent years and has become an issue in the 2004 elections, is contained in the president's annual report to Congress on the health of the economy.

"Outsourcing is just a new way of doing international trade," said N. Gregory Mankiw, chairman of Bush's Council of Economic Advisors, which prepared the report. "More things are tradable than were tradable in the past. And that's a good thing."

What did the Vice-President do for Halliburton?
http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/?040216fa_fact

It details the insider connections and the vast profits to be made on the war in Iraq. Not so much illegal as legally deplorable.

sorry to be off-topic

Cheaper overseas production certainly enriches the people he represents. The same people he gave tax breaks to.

Is anyone in not in the high income bracket really stupid enough to think that these rich elite give a fat-rats-arse about Joe Average?

Mr Average only exists, to be lied to (to garner his vote), to get tax from (to give to Halliburton etc) and to supply sons and daughters to be sent overseas to get shot.

You could contribute to the Democratic nominee in addition to voting for him.

That'll help offset some of the $170M Bush has raised for his campaign using your tax dollars.

Well, until they got caught by the blogosphere, the Kerry campaign was outsourcing phone banks to Canada.

FriarTuck, you imply that the Kerry campaign knew that the firm was doing this. In fact, the story makes plain that once the campaign found out that the firm was using outsourced labor they immediately fired the firm. Good for them. So what's your complaint?

The fact that the Bush administration favors outsourcing is fairly well known. What hasn't been getting a lot of press is the decision to wipe out the SBA. Next year's budget cuts SBA funding by 15%. But this isn't a new thing caused by the deficit. In 2001, Bush proposed cutting the SBA by 40%. In 2003, Bush proposed halving the SBA's loan program. (I don't know what eventually passed Congress.)

The Bush administration has declared war on small business, as well as working people. Bush seems to take small business for granted -- thinking, I suppose, that they will automatically support Republicans.

EDIT: Lou Dobbs today was grilling some loser from the RNC about the administration's stance on job exportation. Dobbs, while a conservative, is pretty populist on this subject. He has been (rightly) on his high horse about the exportation of U.S. jobs by the current batch of corporate execs.
