Hi!

I hope I got your attention with my little title.

I'm in my final year at commercial design school in the Netherlands, called Grafimedia. For my final project I had to think of an employer with the need for promotion of a new product. You probably guessed it, I chose Apple.

I'm thinking of taking a gaming console as new Apple item, but since Apple doesn't just make something and sell it, I need some good background to work with. I recon there are some experts here who know a bit about Apple's way of thinking, so I ask you; what do you expect Apple would create if it would focus a product purely on gaming? If you have a better suggestion, i'd welcome any advice with open arms.

Also how do you think Apple would promote something like that?

Love this forum! I check here reguraly, but never posted anything untill now.

Seeya!

The Pippin is so 1990's...

They didn't do very well with it then, but they seem to be doing well with the iPod Touch. That could be considered their new game console.

Nintendo already made Apple's game console and called it the Wii.

Ok thats a start! So it would probably be something with touch! Do you think it could be something in the shape of a macbook's screen with the screen beeing complete touch? its ofcourse a bit a simple guess. Apple 'd probably come with something more challenging, right? And would they make it solely for gaming or for more things?

Behold the iPhone (http://www.apple.com/iphone/gallery/ads/) and iPod Touch (http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/).

I'm pretty confident through lessons learned in the past this is about as far as Apple will get into console/mobile gaming.

the touch/iphone duo IS what apple would, and has, done for a pure gaming device. It's exactly what steve likes, sexy and with very few buttons/ports. There'd be no point in making another one without the ipod features, so that's what you're going to get. Have fun :)

I second that. If apple were to make a pure game console, it would have been an almost exact copy of the nintendo wii. Innovate the gameplay.

As it is now, the iTouch/iPhone biggest game competitors are the PSP and Nintendo's DS (the handheld market).

Are you going for a straight-up console (PS3 and XBOX 360) or handheld?

Notice how similar the Pippin controller is to the 360 controller of today.
