Never had one, never needed one. The only time that this might change is if they give me a free one for work - and even then, it would probably spend more time being turned off/in the drawer than being used.

I use my Sony Ericsson T68i occasionaly as a calendar (isync with ical). I got an old Palm Vx from a colleage, but it won't sync (it gives fatal errors...).

My iPod handles all the calendar and contact management I need. I wonder why this wasn't an option in the poll?

Same here. My iPod handles my contacts and calendar needs. I really don't need a PDA. Though I think the reason the iPod was not on the poll is because it's not a PDA. It would have been nice to see how many people use their iPod as a PDA.

I used to have a palm. But it was too unhandy. Now I use iCal. Seems like my powerbook is more handy than the palm was....

Who uses a Newton? Are they still around, functional and available for purchase!?!
I use a Palm, but a lot less now that I have both an iPod (for me)and a blackberry (for work).
My problem is that it takes too much effort to sync the iPod, iCal, Palm and blackberry.....

I'd vote ipod too, its what i used the last time i checked an address. I use the phone book on my mobile most of all.
I still have a handspring, but i haven't used it in about two years now. when i did, it was mostly for playing dope wars and that space trader game.

I got one of them sony ericsson p900s, its sweet...its handy for me to keep passwords on, serial numbers, crap that i need when i call service drones (ie, walking behind a machine, copying the serial number into my phone, walking out of the colo cause it sounds like a wind tunnel, going outside, calling, talking about the machine, give serial number....go home, work the next day...damn, need the serial for a rma...ah ha, on the phone....)...most of my work when i am mobile is done via kvms, so to pull out my lappy to find a password or other crap is annoying....plus it has cool weather/time stuff (i deal with people everywhere) and yeah, for me its good, but for most people, i don't see a need.
I had a palm for a while, i got sick of carrying it, a phone and my laptop around (especially with all the duplicated info...its was like, should i break out the pda, no, its my phone...is it? or on my lappy...bugger)
so now its just the phone and if i really need it, break out the lappy
plus the p900 is a normal size as well (its a bit thicker than my wifes t610) and yeah, works well
anyways, thats it

let's be controversial and tell you I've got a Dell Axim X5 :D
Actually I'm very happy with it - and it syncs with my Outlook perfectly. I haven't tried hooking it up to the PowerBook yet, but I have a friend who has done with a Compaq iPaq, with few problems after buying some 3rd-party software.
Unlike some, I don't believe that they're a fad - I do think they have a future - but as communication devices (smart phones or pda-phones) - especially as the high-speed mobile generation gets more popular.
Windows Mobile - Pocket PC 2003 is my favourite Microsoft product!! hehe...

An aging HP Jornada 568 Pocket PC with a 1GB CF card that syncs with my "My Documents" directory on my desktop. I store music and have a few full length movies on the thing. (Right now Raiders and Underworld.) I use to do CDMA wireless on it but the cost was prohibitive and the speed sucked. I also have a first gen Compaq iPaq that was converted over to Linux. A friend of mine that is a Linux head helped me out on the conversion. I love the GUI that they use. It much closes to a desktop experience then anything Pocket PC or even Palm gives you.
I'm waiting for Pocket PC 2004 and Palm OS 6 to be released before I jump to my next device. I was seriously looking at Palm for my next device what with the enhancements I've read that will be sported in OS 6 but frankly this announcement about Palm and killing support for OS X was the final grain of salt that has tipped the balances. Palm has, for now, native Mac support. By dropping that for me Pocket PC and Palm are now equal and now that its confirmed that Pocket PC 2004 will sport VGA resolutions I pretty sure I'm going to stick with Pocket PC.

got it for free from dell (1 for each machine - 5 total) when buying last batch of computers for work.

So. Hear that talk about an Apple PDA or Apple Phone? Wouldn't that be great? Wow. I bet it'll have a 10 nm G5 in it and it'll use Bluetooth to cause any PCs in it's range to explode!

The gadget-freak side of me wanted a PDA badly back in the days of the Poquet PC, the Atari Portfolio, and the HP 95, but I couldn't afford one. When the Palm Pilot came out, I bought the Professional with great misgivings, fearing it wouldn't be that useful and would end up collecting dust in a drawer.
Instead, I found it immediately indispensible, and it put my PowerBook 150 out of a job. It's not a perfect all-arund computing device, but what it does it does very well. I rely on mine more and more as my memory gets worse and worse.
I used to think people using laptops or PDAs in public were pretentious. Then I got my PDA, and found I use it because it's functional, not because I care what I look like. I used to think cell phone users were twits, but I ended up with one of those, too.
I still use a Palm Vx. For me, it's the ideal combination of small size, light weight, and long battery life.
None of the smart phones I've tried have tempted me to switch. The interfaces are all too clunky. The Samsung SPH-i500 rocks (http://www.samsungtelecom.com/dev/i500/), but that's because it's the first Palm-powered phone that isn't too large. I'm not willing to switch from Verizon to Sprint to get one; besides, I like the phone have now.
I should try syncing my info to my iPod, but getting to the info I want would be more cumbersome on the iPod. And, I constantly add information to my Palm throughout the day. I'd have to carry my iPod *and* a pad of paper, then type in my notes every night. Plus, the display on the Palm seems bigger.
I'm sorry to read that Palm won't support the Mac with future models. Eventually I'll probably drop or sit on my Palm Vx, or the battery will wear out. When that time comes, I'll look for another Vx on eBay or in pawnshops.
If I need a new one, I guess the then-current Windows Mobile PDAs will be as much an option as the future Palms, since either way you can get it to work using third-party software. My decision about what to get will be largely determined by how easy it will be to sync with my Mac and my Linux machine.
I think Apple should make a deal with Palm to provide the HotSync conduit software built in to iSync.
I'm surprised that so many forum users don't use PDAs. I really would have trouble functioning without mine.

Use it mainly for easy access to Filemaker Pro files,
inventory, pricing, account info, etc etc. It's a pain to whip out my PB just for pricing and contact info for obscure clients is not practical on a phone.

palm is dropping apple, not the other way around.
your wife's pda will still work, they are just going to stop developing the palm desktop for the newest palm operating system...if your wife does need to upgrade then, mark/space has already pledged a program.
but OS 5.x and lower will work with the palm desktop and macs.

it would have to eb damn good...for me, and i am sure i am not the only person here who thinks this, if a pda is going to cost me as much as a laptop i dont need it....
and the pda market has reflected that time and time again, especially with the sales of the high-end sonys that went for 600-800 usd. they sold, but not in droves like palmone and hp handhelds do.
200-300 is the magic pda price for me...i can scrape that up if i need to, and its a reasonable amount for the feature sets of pdas that land in that category. above that its just not worth it...
anyone else agree?

I've got a Clie, a TJ-35. I agree with the previous poster who said it becomes indispensible like a cellphone or a computer do. I was using it to listen to mp3s until I bought my ipod, so now I use it to read (read the entire Harry Potter series off that thing on the metro) and obviously to keep track of stuff. The TJ-35 (and I believe the 25) have a handwriting recognition that I don't believe is on other Clies (Decuma??) It makes it really easy to put info into it. As I tend to lose things, I like being able to jot down a grocery list on the thing and then pull it out later. Lastly, I use it as a little portable photolibrary, just dumping pictures onto the memory stick.

I've been reading through this thread and am quite amazed at all the uses people have for their PDAs besides contact and appointment management. I also was not expecting people to be using iPods as makeshift PDAs. I consider myself a basic PDA user (when I do use my PDA, which isn't often). I never would have thought to use one for the 'extended' functions.

yep, but if you desparately need a keyboard the palm IR keyboard might work...i dont remember if the treo 600 has an ir port. but it does have the mini keyboard, plus jot, so unless you are taking copious notes it should suit you without a problem.
