Best Dictionary?

in your opinion, what is the best dictionary application available?

I've only tried two dictionaries, the American Heritage Desk and The American Heritage 4th Edition. The Desk has fewer entries and more concise but less detailed definitions, I moved on to the American Heritage 4th Edition dictionary, and it's served me well. I sometimes read books on neuroscience or discussions between Buddhists and scientists on the brain, and the terminology the people in those fields use are not common. The American Heritage 4th edition has never failed to have the entry or to define the word well.

The other dictionary that also has extensive entries is Merriam Websters (they have a few dictionaries, so if you're looking for extensive entries, check the app description carefully to make sure you're getting the right one).

i have not found a good one yet. they are very shallow showing just current usage; no history, no alternate meanings etc ... just plain unusable dross.

a good one would be international, have a thesaurus, history etc. none have those so i will stick with free webdict until something comes out that is worthwhile

As already suggested WordBook. They have just recently done an upgrade and have some very cool features like assitance with anagrams crosswords etc. There is also a way to look at syms and ants as well as go to the IE.

The Concise Oxford (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=292520867&mt=8) may not be perfect, but it's far from unusable dross. It's not cheap but I find it invaluable.
